JOB TITLE: Volunteer Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Operations

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE JOB:

A Volunteer Coordinator is a professional who is responsible for interviewing and hiring volunteers and placing them in different roles based on their qualifications. They maintain accurate records about the progress, manage training courses, work with managers to ensure their needs are met, and help address any issues that arise.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for overseeing volunteer activities within an organization. Duties include interviewing and hiring volunteers, placing volunteers in different roles based on their qualifications and maintaining accurate volunteer records.
  • Develop and implement a strategy for recruiting, engaging, and maintaining new volunteers. This includes assisting with public awareness efforts and community outreach, including providing presentations and attending community meetings.
  • Engage and maintain current volunteer base.
  • Provide all necessary training for volunteers by developing and maintaining training schedules. Coordinate with other staff as needed.
  • Provide all communication and coordination for group volunteer service projects as they arise.
    • Includes preparation, supervision, and clean-up after the projects.
  • Oversee FCC’s thrift store and assist in the regular recruitment of volunteers.
  • Travel to lead, attend, and implement volunteer advisory boards within FCC’s service areas.
  • Schedule and coordinate volunteers for staff and organizational needs.
  • Enter all volunteer hours into a database system and prepare volunteer reports for all programs.
    • Provide monthly volunteer reports to the Director of Finance by the 10th of each month.
  • Maintain a volunteer handbook with policies and procedures and update it as needed.
  • Interview, supervise, and coordinate interns.
  • Organize and implement opportunities for volunteer recognition.
    • Special focus on Volunteer Appreciation Month in April
  • Develop and maintain complete and accurate records for direct service volunteers and interns.
  • Develop and implement a plan to monitor volunteer satisfaction.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation. An on-call rotation consists of sharing crisis response duties for 7 days at a time, as well as rotating holiday coverage with co-workers.
  • Complete all training requirements and fulfill ongoing certification requirements as needed.
  • Adhere to all Family Crisis Centers’ policies and procedures.
  • Assist and participate in agency wide events.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Skills and Abilities

  • Self-starter with collaborative skills and must be able to work independently or as a team member.
  • Possess good written, verbal, and record keeping skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and possesses strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Personable and able to develop a positive rapport with individuals while maintaining a strong sense of professionalism.
  • Confident to speak in public to small and large groups of community members in a variety of settings. Ability to build collaborative working practices with multiple community stakeholders.
  • Be reliable, dependable, solution-oriented, and able to follow protocol and policies.


Qualifications


  • A. in any human service-related field, communications, public relations or equivalent. Professional and personal experience may substitute for educational requirements.
  • Must be able to pass criminal and child/dependent adult abuse background checks.
  • Must clear Sex Offender Registries.
  • Previous employment or volunteer work in human services, community agencies, or other related nonprofit or social change organizations a plus.
  • Must possess valid driver’s license and have adequate motor vehicle insurance
  • Once hired, successfully complete a mandatory 20-hour victim counselor training.
