Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a professional Warrant Officer. The Warrant Officer oversees all aspects of consideration of technical violations of youth leading to revocation. This process includes review and edit of violation reports, making recommendations of sanctions and rewards to continue community supervision, and issuance of warrants. The candidate will work closely with law enforcement agencies, IDJJ management, legal teams, and Aftercare supervisory staff. Job Responsibilities

  • Serves as a Warrant Officer.
  • Plans, develops, organizes, and prepares training curriculum and provides associated training to Aftercare staff on warrant process and procedures.
  • Monitors all technological changes and advances relating to Youth 360 (Y360) System and all new equipment required for operations to run efficiently.
  • Coordinates and facilitates From Other State (FOS) processing.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of college with major coursework in law enforcement or corrections.
  • Requires three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience working with youth in juvenile services.


Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)

  • Prefers at least three (3) years of experience ensuring compliance with counseling and guidance principles and techniques.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of experience applying theories of personality and deviant behavior, delinquency, and criminology in a professional setting.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of professional experience utilizing the principles of cognitive behavioral treatment in a social service, congregate care, and/or related setting.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of professional experience working with the sociology of the family and of racial and cultural minorities, urban sociology, and social problems.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience with casework techniques and the writing of professional reports as it relates to caseloads.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of experience supervising professional staff.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience assigning and reassigning caseloads and daily tasks to staff.
  • Prefers the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.


Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to pass an IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
  • Requires the ability to comply with local and federal health mandates.
  • Candidates must be over the age of 21.
  • Requires ability to possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Requires the ability to travel.
  • Requires successful completion of an initial pre-service training curriculum.

Over 900 staff members from across various departments—security, programming, education, mental health, and more—collaborate with the understanding that youth are physically, emotionally, and cognitively different from adults. The department provides extensive services to young people through a developmental, treatment-focused model of care that builds youth resiliency,
engages families, and promotes community safety at the five youth facilities it operates across the state. IDJJ serves and houses approximately 150 youth and is responsible for approximately 500 youth on Aftercare in various Illinois’ communities.
