Under the direction of the Human Resources Manager, the Academic Personnel Analyst works collaboratively to provide high-level analytical support, policy interpretation and development of department policies and procedures. The incumbent provides expertise with complex transactions for academic appointments that require an understanding of the School of Medicine, UC Davis and Academic Personnel Manual Policies and Procedures. The incumbent requires extensive analytical skills to keep up with ever-changing school, campus, university, federal and state employment policies. The position of Academic Personnel Analyst oversees the recruitment, advancement, compensation and retention of all academic personnel. Independently composes/drafts correspondence required for faculty recruitment, hiring and directives.

Responsibilities
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is a School of Medicine academic/clinical department of approximately 34 faculty members, 32 Volunteer Clinical Faculty, 4 Staff Physicians, 6 Fellows, 30 Residents, and approximately 76 staff members. The Department of Family and Community Medicine is a School of Medicine academic/clinical department of approximately 15 faculty members, 134 Volunteer Clinical Faculty, 5 Staff Physicians, 47 Residents, and approximately 40 staff members. The departments are responsible for providing research, education, and clinical service. This position provides academic personnel support in OB/GYN and will back-up the Academic Personnel Analyst in Family and Community Medicine.

This position manages all academic actions including recruitments, appointments, advancements, problem and conflict resolution. The Academic Personnel Analyst facilitates academic personnel actions in collaboration with other Schools, Colleges and Departments at UC Davis.
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or a combination of experience, education and/or training required
  • Several years of experience in Academic Personnel
  • Experience interpreting and applying policy, collective bargaining agreements, and state and federal laws.
  • Experience in supervision, managing employee performance and motivating staff.
  • Analytical skills to evaluate problems, streamline processes, review policies to make decisions, provide recommendations, and develop justification to resolve problems.
  • Skill to appropriately establish workload priorities. Skill to effectively organize and prioritize workload responsibilities while maintaining and meeting deadlines.
  • Experience with writing, translating and implementing policies.
  • Analytical skills to evaluate information, practices and procedures, formulate logical and objective conclusions and make recommendations for effective solutions.
  • Excellent working knowledge of and experience with computerized information systems and personal computing applications is essential.
  • Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills with the ability to extract and diagnose data.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly convey information and ideas through a variety of media to diverse audiences. Engage and help customers understand and retain the message using appropriate grammar, tone and vocal quality.
  • Skilled at setting priorities for work, tasks, and functions to effectively manage and follow through on assigned tasks to meet multiple/conflicting deadlines.
  • Experience making presentations to groups and to facilitate groups dealing with complex, difficult, and sensitive topics.
  • Display organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail, ensuring documentation is accurate, complete, maintained in a logical manner, such that workload priorities can be determined in an appropriate way to accomplish a task or goal. Ability to effectively multi-task.
