Administrative Assistant V Job at Fairfax County Government
Oversees human resources administrative support, supervises HR contacts and manages all human resources support activities for the Department of Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS). Oversees payroll processing. Maintains position counts and ensures all position control forms and personnel action requests are properly completed. Interprets federal, state, and local laws, as well as county and departmental policies to staff. Using SAP/HCM, PEAQ and other information technology tools, queries the system to produce complex reports. Develops and maintains complicated databases and spreadsheets to track personnel information. Works with budget staff regarding submission of the personnel services part of the budget. Improves business processes with better use of technology & staff. Works on special projects for NCS and countywide grants administered within NCS, as assigned.
Note: The assigned functional areas are general administrative support, payroll, and personnel/position processing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: (Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies.) High school graduation and four years of experience providing administrative support in the assigned functional area(s).
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a Child Protective Services Registry check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate degree or higher.
- Significant experience with and advanced knowledge of HR practices (payroll, personnel assignment changes, recruiting, etc.)
- Supervisory experience; excellent skills and abilities working in a team environment.
- Substantial experience working with an HR reporting and payroll system (i.e. SAP, FOCUS, Oracle).
- Experience with and ability to efficiently prioritize workload and adhere to deadlines.
- Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Proven ability to adapt to rapid changes in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience gathering and analyzing data and using PEAQ to generate reports.
- Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software to prepare documents, store, track, manipulate, and analyze information.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is generally sedentary in nature. However, incumbent may be required to do some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items up to 25 pounds. Ability to operate keyboard-driven equipment. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Sufficiently mobile to attend meetings at various locations and make presentations to county staff and community. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
