The Admissions Recruiter must be a naturally persuasive, competitive and enthusiastic individual that is highly self-motivated and outgoing. The Admissions Recruiter will exercise superior communication, presentation, coordination, organization and human relations skills within a results-driven, sales-like set of expectations. Prospect identification, cultivation, management, and matriculation are primary responsibilities of this position and will require comfort with frequent and extensive regional travel (HS visits, college/career fairs, community events, etc.), non-standard and varied working hours (evening and weekend); small and large group presentations, consistent phone outreach, and regular communication via both traditional (letters, notes, postcards) and electronic (email, text, social media, etc.), and video conference methods. The Admissions Recruiter also shares a common set of responsibilities within the internal Student Affairs team that includes: on and off-campus event facilitation; campus tours; bulk mailings; classroom visits; telemarketing; and any other recruitment and student onboarding related duties as assigned.

This position is a full-time H.E.A. Professional Services position (261 work days per year). Starting salary for the position is $40,000 annually. Benefits include medical, dental & vision insurance, $50,000 life insurance, long-term disability, paid sick leave, paid spring and holiday breaks, 15 days vacation and participation in IPERS or TIAA-CREF retirement plan.

The term of employment is as per Bargaining Agreement between SCC Board of Trustees and the SCCHEA, employment contract, and relevant policies of the Board of Trustees and SCC.

Essential Duties Summary
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Learn and embrace the comprehensive community college philosophy and related Iowa Code. Learn, apply and role-model all SCC policies and procedures, including but not limited to the strategic goals and expectations of accountability within the Student Affairs Division.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of strategies to increase awareness of and enrollments for all SCC academic programs.
  • Keep current on all SCC academic pathways and program requirements as directed.
  • Awareness of transfer policies at SCC and other institutions as necessary.
  • Develop a fluent understanding of SCC online course offerings and related ICCOC policies and procedures.
  • Understand and stay current on various functions of the student portal; assisting students with access and navigation as related to admissions, career exploration, financial aid, testing, and other educational success resources.
  • Develop an understanding of the student support and academic resources available at SCC.
  • Coordinate and facilitate admissions activities as directed including appointments, tours, student communication, phone calls, data collection/reporting and website updates.
  • Assist with creation and distribution of information to prospective, applied, and former students
  • Assist with the development and implementation of strategies to increase the diversity and retention of our student population.
  • Attend meetings/workshops, conferences related to admissions and recruitment.
  • Engage current students and alumni in outreach, referral, and marketing activities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with area K-12 administration and staff, as well as business and community leaders.
  • Maintain database of prospective students and where they are in the admissions process.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Specific Leadership Responsibilities:
A. Coordination and facilitation of recruitment and admission programs and processes specific to traditional student populations including high school visits, college/career fairs, campus visit days, special events, counselor meetings, and development of new initiatives to increase prospects, applications and matriculation of students.
B. Coordination of faculty visits, career days, and other program exploration opportunities. Establish and maintain relationships with guidance counselors, vocational directors, instructors, coaches and/or respective club sponsors at all area high schools and volunteer to make presentations to classes, groups of students and clubs regarding SCC educational opportunities. Look for new opportunities and initiatives to increase awareness and enrollments in SCC programs.
C. Assist with the concurrent enrollment process as needed.
D. Coordination of recruitment and admission programs and processes specific to non-traditional learners (i.e. students transitioning from non-credit to credit; students transitioning from AEL programming, returning adults, veterans, etc.).

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Public Speaking, Marketing/Sales, Communications, Public Relations, degree preferred.
  • SCC recent alumnus preferred.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in higher educational setting preferred.
  • Experience in admissions, advising, sales/promotions, marketing, public affairs or student services/student life preferred.
  • Aptitude to attract students, locally, regionally, and nationally, to SCC.
  • Demonstrated understanding, ability, and desire for working with people from diverse backgrounds including all ages, socio-economic status, educational levels, variety of language, and cultural backgrounds, as well as all levels of social and personal development
  • Knowledge of or ability to develop in-depth familiarity with all SCC academic and extracurricular programs, various transfer articulations and partnership programs between SCC and other colleges/universities, and the ability to communicate the value of such to prospective students.
  • Superior communication, presentation, and human relations skills (listening, speaking, and writing) are required.
  • Familiarity and/or proficiency with multiple technologies including the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point), Google (documents, sheets), contemporary methods of communication regularly used by target audience(Instagram, You Tube, Snap Chat, Twitter, Facebook, Video Chat) and Zoom. .
  • Must be a good listener, be non-judgmental and well-adjusted with the ability to maintain strict confidentiality and form trusting relationships with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain an approachable, accessible, positive and professional demeanor, and have temperament to provide exceptional customer service in high pressure situations.
  • Work independently with good judgment in perceiving priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Proven skills with accuracy, efficiency, multitasking, creativity, critical-thinking, and independent problem-solving in an environment with varied and rapidly changing circumstances as well as numerous interruptions.
  • Ability and desire to work cooperatively in a team environment and be open to, flexible with, and supportive of change as necessary.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and abide by government forms and regulations, college catalogs, and SCC Board Policies and Administrative Guidelines.
  • Local, regional, state, and national travel required.
  • Availability to work varied hours and evenings/weekends as directed.
  • Ability to climb stairs and lift and maneuver heavy boxes up to 50 lbs.
  • Valid driver’s license and exceptional driving record.
