Whitfield School, located in Creve Coeur, serves students in grades 6-12 by providing a coeducational, college preparatory education that cultivates ethical, confident, and successful students in a community of innovation, collaboration, and trust.

Whitfield seeks an organized, energetic, and experienced professional to grow annual philanthropic support from its many constituencies. In collaboration with the Director of Development and Director of Alumni Relations, the Assistant Director of Development will cultivate, solicit, and steward donations to Whitfield School with steady year over year growth. The successful candidate will manage initiatives, events, and campaigns designed to increase giving across the board from current parents, parents of alumni, alumni, grandparents, and faculty/staff.

The Assistant Director of Development is responsible for overseeing the annual fund, managing a small portfolio of gift prospects, and supporting parent engagement initiatives. In collaboration with the Director of Development, responsibilities include but are not limited to planning and executing an annual fund campaign of $1.0M+, coordinating annual fund volunteers, coordinating fundraising and cultivation events, and developing and implementing micro-campaigns and special fundraising efforts.

The Assistant Director of Development serves on the Development team and reports directly to the Director of Development. This is a management position, supported by the Development Database Manager.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Annual Fund Management

  • Establish annual fundraising goals, objectives, and projections. Monitor, analyze, and evaluate giving patterns, and use these metrics to inform projections, goals, and annual campaign strategy for success year over year.
  • Execute all aspects of the annual fund appeal process including education, cultivation, targeted segmented direct solicitations, stewardship, and acknowledgements.
  • Develop annual fund communications and content, including brochures, appeals, acknowledgement letters, emails, annual report, impact reports, etc.
  • Develop strategy to retain current donors and increase acquisition and participation rates of all constituencies.

Prospect & Relationship Management

  • Manage the annual giving prospect pipeline.
  • Manage a small portfolio of gift prospects.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Admission and Parents Council to develop and implement an onboarding/orientation program for first year parents.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Development to integrate annual giving and major gift solicitation strategies.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Alumni Relations to create alumni engagement strategies that include volunteerism, communications, and philanthropic opportunities.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to develop a student philanthropy and class gift program.

Volunteer Management

  • Identify, recruit, train, and manage fundraising volunteers (parents and alumni).
  • Recruit and manage volunteers for fundraising events.

Database Management

  • Maintain integrity of the database by implementing processes and procedures to ensure all gifts are accurately recorded and coded and all outreach (engagement, solicitation, gift acknowledgment, stewardship) is accurately tracked.
  • Oversee the Development Assistant and ensure that best practices for data management are followed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated success managing a multi-dimensional annual giving program.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in database management and high level of comfort using data to inform decision-making; familiarity with Raiser’s Edge preferred.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and successfully execute multiple concurrent tasks; to anticipate needs and act accordingly; and to perform with a high degree of initiative and confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with all constituents.
  • Positive “can do” attitude, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience providing a high level of professional service to internal and external constituents.
  • Ability to handle challenging situations diplomatically and maintain collaborative working relationships with colleagues, volunteers and patrons.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years experience in fundraising, in an education setting preferred.

Full-time, 12-month position. Salary commensurate with experience.
