Summary
The Assistant Superintendent of Learning and Teaching is responsible for providing leadership and direction for the planning, implementation, and assessment of academic services to all District schools. The incumbent ensures the effective operation of the academic program by developing, managing, and supporting all resources essential to increasing student achievement. This position is responsible for supervising the Learning and Teaching Department staff.
Essential Duties
- Oversees the Planning and Development of the Academic Department Programs
- Plans, directs, and monitors the curriculum and instruction programs of the Fulton County School System
- Oversees the District’s curriculum implementations and review cycles and provides adequate curriculum materials and equipment for all schools
- Assists with the development of strategic goals/objectives related to the curriculum and instructional programs in all schools
- Consults with executive District leadership to ensure program continuity and articulation.
- Provides Support and Guidance for all Curriculum and Instructional Programs
- Provides support to principals in evaluation of local instructional programs and in planning for improvement of the program
- Provides leadership, direction, and oversight for Fine Arts, Health/PE, Extended Learning, Humanities, STEM, JROTC, Advanced Studies, Pre-Kindergarten, Career and Technical Education, and other academic programs in the District
- Provides coordination in the development of budget items related to curriculum and instruction for all schools
- Meets regularly with key personnel throughout the District to ensure that proper information flows through leadership, including establishing goals, objectives and long range plans
- Coaches and builds capacity in order to ensure the success of the Academic Division
- Advocates change within schools and across the District
- Collaborates with peers to develop a consistent approach for cultivating a successful team
- Provides direct support to learning communities and schools to facilitate effective implementation of Fulton County Schools' framework for effective standards-based classroom
- Provides the leadership for the implementation of Fulton County Schools' framework for Continuous Achievement
- Provides leadership for the implementation of grading and reporting
- Supports the design and delivery of professional learning that ensures fidelity of curriculum and research-based instructional strategies implementation across all schools
- Facilitatse communication with employee organizations, parents, community groups, and institutions of higher education regarding curriculum, instruction, and assessment
- Maintains strong partnerships with all central offices and departments, learning communities, and schools to ensure consistent delivery of curriculum and instructional programs
- Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

- Strong background in school administration and supervision
- Strong background in curriculum and instruction trends and techniques
- Must be able to perceive the needs of the total school system program
- Strong decision-making ability, budget experience, proven performance and resource management skills
- Ability to articulate best practices in standards-based instruction, implement, and monitor alternative education models
- Ability to effectively lead, organize, and direct the work of others
- Knowledge of school and school district policies and practices
- Demonstrated ability to implement the District's strategic plan
- Ability to relate to a wide variety of people and to observe, listen and provide leadership which results in the best possible work environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
