Job Description
SUMMARY
Performs all types of tasks associated with maintaining public building facilities of the City of Amarillo.
When required, makes assignments to subordinates, trains other personnel, prepares warehouse orders, buying requisitions, trains personnel on energy management systems, operates all types of maintenance equipment and test equipment.
Helps with the supervision of mechanics of a lower grade. Possess experience in and knowledge of the principles and practice of heating and air conditioning (HVAC) and boiler installation, maintenance and repair. Will be required to work shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays and during inclement weather. This position is considered weather essential personnel.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Operates specialized electronic control systems for HVAC and other mechanical equipment.

Licenses/Certification

Required Qualifications
  • High school graduate or GED is required.
  • Building Mechanic (I-III): One to four years experience in building or facility maintenance duties including experience in HVAC and mechanical systems and equipment installation, maintenance and repairs is required.
  • Possession of recognized certification(s) in HVAC systems and equipment or the ability to obtain such within six (6) months of employment is strongly preferred.
  • Must have a valid Texas drivers license.
  • Due to the level of access needed in this position, you must be willing to be fingerprinted and submit to a criminal background check.
  • Must pass all background checks.
  • Required to operate refrigeration testing and reclamation devices and other tools and equipment common in building systems maintenance, personal computers and computerized lighting and sound equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

Physical Demands
Approximately 50% of work time is spent outdoors, moving mechanical or HVAC equipment, working on top of buildings, repairing concrete, snow removal, etc.
Some heavy lifting – up to 75 lbs.
