JOB SUMMARY
This position performs specialized duties in support of a variety of university communications and marketing functions.

MAJOR DUTIES
Assists in the development of news releases, promotional materials, newsletters and other materials as assigned.
Assists with the creation of written content for special events, conferences and workshops.
Gathers information regarding a variety of university programs to assist in the development and implementation of marketing efforts to advance recruitment, retention, graduation and other goals.
Provides photographic support as assigned.
Assists in the planning and implementation of special campaign as needed.
Accommodates a changing workflow and performs related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Knowledge of communications and marketing strategies and techniques, especially social media.
Knowledge of Associated Press guidelines for written materials.
Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs.
Skill in the operation of still cameras.
Skill in decision making and problem solving.
Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Director for Communications & Marketing assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES
Guidelines include university policies and procedures and the AP Style Guide. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of varied specialized duties. Strict deadlines contribute to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to provide specialized support for university communications and marketing efforts. Success in this position contributes to the achievement of marketing and communications goals.

Contacts are typically with co-workers, other university personnel, faculty, staff, students, media representatives, and members of the general public.
Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, to provide services, or to motivate or influence persons.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while standing or walking.
The work is typically performed in an office.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
None.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with completion of a baccalaureate degree.
One to two years professional experience in a related field that involved public relations, communications, marketing, or media.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated ability as a writer by submitting at least three samples of news releases, scripts, promotional copy and/or other related materials.

Annual salary $33,024.00 with excellent benefits, including generous leave time.
