What you would do as a DSP in Community Living: Support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their individual pursuit of a fulfilling life by working as part of a team in a small residential home setting. You would support residents with life skills and household tasks such as meal planning and preparation, laundry and light housework; as well as assist with personal care, administer medications, and provide transportation as needed.


When you would work: We are interviewing DSP candidates to cover a variety of shifts (full-time, part-time or PRN) throughout the week and weekends. Available shifts include:

  • 3:30pm-9:00pm
  • 3:00pm-11:00pm
  • 4:00pm-10:00pm
  • 5:00pm-10:00pm

Where you would work: A lovely residential home in Taneytown or Westminster.

Requirements:

DSP QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license with no more than 2 current points on record
  • Basic computer and keyboarding skills
  • Clean drug screen and criminal record (The Arc provides programs, services, and direct care to vulnerable adults)
  • The ability to successfully pass a drug screening
  • The ability to complete CPR, First Aid, Certified Medication Technician, and other trainings mandated by the Developmental Disabilities Administration and The Arc

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift/manipulate at least 50 pounds frequently with ability to lift, carry and/or exert force in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Ability to withstand prolonged periods of standing and frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing required: Including lifting a wheelchair and repositioning an individual.
  • Ability to transfer individuals from a chair to vehicle, bed to chair. Ability to position individual on a sling or Hoyer lift. Ability to physically secure individual in a wheelchair to the van with tie-downs.
