Located approximately 26 miles from the City of Fairbanks, Fort Knox is a centre of excellence for the Company as one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world. Fort Knox celebrated its 25-year anniversary in 2021, and has produced over 8.5 million ounces since it began operation. In 2020, Kinross acquired Manh Choh – a project expected to commence production in 2024 and process ore at Fort Knox.

Job Description

Serves as the coordinating link between the mine, local communities, and employees. Responsibilities include implementing the site’s external stakeholder engagement and communications plan, facilitating external stakeholder relations to include event coordination and meetings, assisting in coordination of the site’s grant making processes, and promoting and protecting the reputation of Kinross and through effective community relations, while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.


Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and implementation of the site’s corporate responsibility plan, to include the annual stakeholder engagement and communications plans.
  • Support production of reports and presentations to internal and external stakeholders, including data compilation, writing, and proofreading.
  • Solicit information from stakeholders, compile and maintain an excel-based database, and develop detailed and accurate reports, based on this information.
  • Coordinate special events, tours and opportunities for positive exposure in the local and statewide community.
  • Production of internal and external communication methods to include newsletters, social media and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Represent the External Affairs Supervisor in his or her absence; attend mine related and community events as needed.
  • Accurately and timely completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Familiarize and incorporate Corporate Social Responsibility policies and principles.
  • Maintain media and stakeholder contact lists.
  • Promote employees to be ambassadors in the host communities; responsible for recruiting and tracking employee volunteerism.
  • Participate in program development activities as appropriate.
  • Responsible for submitting and approving department invoices and tracking to ensure timely payment.
  • Attend local conventions and conferences as appropriate.
  • Further develop an educational outreach program and relationships with local schools.
  • Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with a diverse population of stakeholders
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
  • Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
  • Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
  • Works without risk or harm to self and others.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by state agency, or must be able to pass driver competency course and exam.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance required.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned by supervisor.
  • Estimated travel based on current job requirements is 15%


Education and Experience

  • Degree in resource management, public relations, communications, or related field preferred.
  • Experience in communications, public relations, resource management, and/or similar field preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of the team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to conduct research, develop reports, formulate objectives and strategies, and make professional presentations.
  • Excellent computer skills to include spreadsheet and Power Point development. Advanced training available.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization; proven ability to work with corporate management and keep the lines of communication open.
  • Possess leadership and interpersonal skills with an ability to effectively interact with different types of community members and other stakeholders; must be able to keep the lines of communication open.
  • Demonstrates administrative, organizational, and writing skills.
  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
