Successful Controller candidates need certain skills to handle the tasks that arise. Some of the most important skills needed to work in this role include:
- Oral and Written Communication skills – The Leader must be able to communicate clearly and concisely with Human Resources, practice leaders, controller and FP&A on matters effecting period financial results.
- Professionalism – When interacting with their customers (Human Resources, Executive Team, Practice leadership, etc.), they must be responsive, and able to address questions, comments and concerns timely and professionally.
- Active Team Management – The Accounting Manager must be an effective manager, which involves: Communicating clear and concise expectations, motivating team members, encouraging discipline and responsibility; and setting an example for the team.
- Knowledge of GAAP and Operational Accounting – Possessing a deep knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting as well as understanding of operational accounting enables the Leader to work collaboratively with the organizations leaders to resolve financial and business matters.
- Problem Solving Skills - The Controller is often involved in identifying and solving problems that exist in Corporate Accounting, Payroll, and Accounts Payable processes, policies, and reporting, so the ability to find and resolve issues is essential in this role.
- Adaptability – The organization and the healthcare industry are continuously evolving, particularly as it relates to care delivery, regulation and M&A. The Leader of accounts payable and compensation accounting must be nimble, able to adapt to changes and shifts in business priorities as they develop.
The Controller oversee the company's Financial Reporting, internal controls, technical accounting, and tax functions. The Controller will have responsibility over all corporate accounting and will be responsible for the accuracy, timeliness, and management of the accounting function. The Controller will work closely with executive management to ensure the achievement of all financial objectives.
This position will be responsible assisting in the developing and maintaining of accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The Controller directs the Accounting Manager, and Manager of Accounts Payable and Payroll, The Controller is responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities as well as integrating newly acquired entities into the First Fertility structure. The Controller will work with the Vice President of Finance, Chief Financial Officer and senior leadership team which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.
Principal Responsibilities
Financial Accounting and Reporting:
- Oversee the monthly financial close and management reporting processes, and retention of associated supporting documentation,
- Lead annual audit with external auditors and coordinate annual financial statement audit with preparation of various footnote disclosures,
- Ensure financial statements are in accordance with US GAAP,
- Maintain an efficient system of policies related to accounting and treasury activities,
- Supports budget and forecasting activities,
- Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
- Supports preparation of annual tax returns, Partnership or Corporate based on legal entity.
Staffing:
- Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.
- Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff.
Business Development:
- Assist with acquisitions of new centers, purchase accounting and incorporating new entity into consolidation,
- Support VP Finance, CFO, and First Fertility Executive Leadership Team with special projects and workflow process improvements utilizing NetSuite and exploring other potential solutions,
Internal Controls and Process Improvements
- Develop, monitor, and implement internal controls based upon changing business environment,
- Add value by identifying opportunities, recommending, and implementing process improvements, develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives, including automation and enhancements to NetSuite functionality.
Other duties as assigned.
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.
· 7-10 years of management/supervisory experience.
· CPA required. Big four or second tier public accounting experience required.
· Experience leading and managing an accounting team.
· Experience with NetSuite or comparable ERP required.
· Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
· Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
· Purchase Accounting and Mergers and Acquisition Experience required.
· Healthcare experience a plus

Pay: $120,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
