Job Description:
COORDINATOR FOR LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Campus Life, the Coordinator for Leadership & Service is responsible for providing relevant and high-quality leadership and service programs to enhance the overall university experience. The Coordinator for Leadership and Service will collaborate with LSU staff, community partners, and student leaders to help students find their place at LSU, foster meaningful learning, and build the leadership capacity of individuals and student organizations. The Coordinator plays a key role in advancing the priorities of the Division of Student Affairs.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE:
  • Build student leadership capacity through 1:1 student advising, facilitation, coaching, community programming, event planning support, and leadership skill development.
  • Develop and deliver large scale community service experiences, service-learning initiatives and alternative breaks with campus and community partners.
  • Provide leadership education opportunities to student organizations and assist student organizations in identifying community service partnerships.
  • Align all work with the divisional priorities of Quality, Mattering and Belonging, and Inclusion and Access with support and guidance from the Assistant Director of Campus Life.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEADERSHIP:
Supervise Student Leadership Coaches
Campus Life is working to redefine student leadership on campus and elevate students as peer leadership educators. The Coordinator for Leadership and Service will oversee our student Leadership Coaches to conduct student outreach, develop customized leadership trainings, and increase the presence of leadership and service on campus.
Integrate Leadership and Service Offerings with Established Campus Frameworks
Campus Life strives to help create a cohesive campus environment where campus partners share common language and complement each other's work throughout the year. The Coordinator will help elevate the student experience by aligning leadership and service programs with major campus frameworks such as career competencies and student wellbeing, helping students learn to lead at LSU and beyond.
Cultivate Community Partnerships
Supporting student leadership development and community engagement requires collaborating with key campus and community stakeholders. The Coordinator will serve as the primary contact for key partners to build mutually beneficial relationships for larger community initiatives like the campus wide service project, Geaux Big and service breaks, and helps students and student organizations connect with community partners to further foster student learning.

ABOUT THE DIVISION OF STUDENT AFFAIRS PRIORITIES:
Three priorities guide our work in the Division of Student Affairs: Mattering & Belonging, Inclusion & Access and Quality. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Direct Student Support (45%): Advises students on leadership development and community engagement opportunities. Translates department efforts, initiatives, and goals to students through interactions at programs, services, events, and experiences. Serve as the liaison between students and the leadership in the unit. Responsible for event planning, curriculum design, facilitation, assessment, and external relations of Leadership and Service programs.
Program Support (40%): Coordinates logistics for one or more programs, events, experiences, or services within Campus Life, including but not limited to leadership training, service trips, and campus-wide events. Responsible for operations of one or more programs, services, events, and/or experiences. Oversees expenditures for one or more events, experiences, or services within Leadership and Service programming.
Quality Control (10%): Ensures every aspect of programmatic outputs including administrative tasks, implementation, and overall design exudes a high degree of quality. Embraces and executes the marginal gains approach and seeks to improve level of all services, events, programs, and experiences in department for continuous improvement every academic year.
Other Duties (5%): Assumes other duties as assigned by the Director of Campus Life and Assistant Director of Campus Life. This includes but is not limited to efforts that support broad division/institution efforts including at least 40 hours per year spent helping divisional initiatives such as Move-In Day, Welcome Week, Family Weekend, Career Expo, Disability Services Finals Testing, other special projects etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Experience with facilitating leadership workshops or coordinating volunteer efforts.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education in college student personnel, higher education, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, facilitating, and assessing educational activities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/EXPECTATIONS:

As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students, or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality.
Ability and willingness to work some evening and weekend hours.
