Detailed Job Description
  • Monitor, supervise, and take part in student-run collection maintenance activities
  • Assist in the creation of plans for and the overseeing of collection maintenance projects related to the physical collections
  • Participating in ongoing collection development and management projects
  • With other library departments, participate in the coordination of interdepartmental collection projects
  • Utilize the student workforce, manage inventory, shelf-reading, and shifting projects (including the move of the collection back to Wallace Library), and processes for the library's circulating collection
  • Ensuring accurate collections information gathering, dissemination, and collaboration
  • Assist with the hiring, training, supervision, and mentoring of student employees staffing Circulation Services
  • Assist in keeping student employees up to date regarding policy changes, library news, and other pertinent information
  • Monitor overdue and missing materials with the goal of increasing access to materials and improving customer service
  • Interpret policies and personally handle issues related to missing items. Use appropriate means to encourage patrons to return items in a timely manner.
  • Represent RIT Libraries as a public service liaison to answer and resolve user concerns and questions
  • Ensure the security of the patrons and department assets within the building
  • Coordinate Circulation & Facilities response to potential and actual emergencies when needed
  • Provide backup and on call support for other Circulation Services staff as needed
  • Open and close the facility during assigned shifts when needed
  • Actively participate in departmental meetings and communications
  • Provide input and suggestions for departmental and library procedural and policy changes with the goal of enhancing service
  • Participate in cross-departmental library teams and projects
  • Participate in appropriate professional development activities

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1 to 3 years of customer service experience
  • 1 or more years supervising others
  • Problem solving abilities
  • Computer use proficiency
  • Customer relations skills
  • Training/Teaching/Coaching skills
