Whatcom Community College invites applications for aCustodian 2 (Class Code 678J) position in the College's Facilities and Operations Department. Under general supervision of the Custodial Supervisor this position performs various custodial and maintenance related tasks to ensure and maintain proper cleanliness of facilities. This position will make rounds, lock doors, close windows and turn off lights. This position interacts with the supervisor and co-workers and various members of the campus community to accomplish work. Designated work areas are assigned by the supervisor. Additional work assignments are made by the supervisor to address areas where there are special needs, or to fill in areas vacant by absence of other employees. Some work assignments may also come from the supervisor through verbal, electronic or written work requests. Assigned work areas will change on a regular rotation.
Responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Flexibility to adjust shift with advanced notice to meet the needs of the institution.
- Performs custodial duties including general and deep cleaning of classrooms, restrooms, floors, student housing units & residential common areas, offices, and common areas using hand tools, custodial equipment and cleaning chemicals.
- Unlock and lock doors, turn off lights, and secure campus buildings/rooms.
- Stocks and inventories supplies, which may require the operation of campus vehicles.
- Identifies, reports and takes corrective action to resolve maintenance problems.
- Improves work methods, knowledge of equipment, supplies, and safety through participation in training sessions with supervisors.
- Moves furniture and equipment, arranges tables and chairs for special events.
- Cleans interior and exterior windows, which may include use of a tucker pole, scrubbers, squeegees, and other window cleaning equipment.
- Empties garbage, recycling and compost, and supports campus sustainability efforts.
- Completes minor repairs to custodial equipment, changing bags, bulbs, belts, etc.
- Follow recommended safety procedures and attend safety trainings.
- Requires punctual and regular attendance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Salary
Salary:
- Range 32, full-time Classified salary starting at $2,697.00 per month with periodic increments to $3,480.00 per month. Likely increases in salary based upon cost of living increase and shift differential for night shift.
Shift and Working Conditions:
- Position's work schedule is 40 hours per week, 5 consecutive days, 5:00 PM to 1:30 AM (shift and schedule may be subject to change based on college needs). Work is generally preformed indoors; HVAC systems may be in set back during working hours. Outside movement in exposed weather while moving from building to building or dumping trash or recycling is a daily occurrence, plus exposure while assisting with snow removal and placement of ice melting substances. Summer hours may be adjusted from the normal work schedule to meet institutional needs.
Benefit Package:
- The position comes with a full benefit package, including health, dental, life, long-term disability insurance and a retirement plan.
- Accrues 8 hours per month of sick leave and 9.33 hours per month vacation leave with periodic vacation accrual increases based on longevity.
