About the Opportunity
JOB SUMMARY:
Success Coordinators are key to the newly initiated Student Support Initiative (SSI) that pairs trained upperclassmen (called Student Success Guides) with incoming students through a tailored tech platform. Each Success Coordinator will organize, train, and supervise approximately ten Student Success Guides and oversee their engagement with caseloads of approximately 10-20 students, respectively.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- This position requires the incumbent to have effective administrative, organization, written and oral communication skills.
- Experience working autonomously and the ability to exercise excellent time management and decision-making skills in areas of responsibility.
- Skills and knowledge are normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and one to three years’ experience working directly with and supporting/developing students in Residential Life, Student Life, or related capacity, e.g., as a student peer mentor, orientation leader, etc. Prior supervisory experience preferred.
- Previous experience in conflict resolution/mediation and crisis management a plus.
- This position requires some non-traditional work hours including evenings and weekends to accommodate student schedules, including those engaged in co-op, athletics, and other aspects of student life.
RESPONSIBILTIES INCLUDE:
Staff Supervision
Supervise the job performance of approximately ten Student Success Guides. Provide training and supervision, lead, engage and motivate employees while actively supporting a positive team culture. Provide an effective process for performance management that includes frequent feedback, recognition and coaching, and a development process that provides measurable goals, clear expectations, and solid direction to each team member. Address unsatisfactory employee performance including developing, delivering, and monitoring performance improvement plans. Facilitate the resolution of employee conflicts. Lead and guide employees/team to develop new skills, knowledge and abilities that will enhance their work and development. Plan, organize resources, assign, and delegate activities and measure results to achieve organization’s expectations. Manage and coach team through changes that impact their day-to-day work by providing the needed structure and transparent environment. Assist employees in navigating business processes and resolving issues. Plan for and support employees in career and professional development opportunities aligned with organization’s needs. Administer and ensure compliance with university policies and procedures. Review staffing needs including developing job descriptions and recruitment plans and leading the selection and onboarding process.
Elevated Concerns
As Student Success Guides work with students, there will be instances where they elevate concerns that require immediate response from a Success Coordinator. This may include direct work with a student to provide additional support, working with Campus Partners, or additional coaching work with a Student Success Guide.
Program & Project Work
Success Coordinators will assist with the development and growth of the Student Support Initiative through independent and collaborative work. Provide insights based on the experiences of both the Student Success Guides and the student participants that will be used to further the direction of the program. Collaborations will include working with other Success Coordinators, members of Student Affairs, the Educational Innovation Team, and other key Campus Partners.
