The Data Engineer role is responsible formaintaining the data capabilities of Clinical Health Network for Transformation’s (CHN’s) Business Intelligence (BI) Programtohelp both internal and external stakeholders solve operational and strategic challenges through the development and maintenance of reports, dashboards, and supplemental data sets. The Data Engineer roleis overseen by the Data Engineering, Lead and both roles collaborate with the Database Administrator (DBA) to ensure that data systems are functional, up-to-date, and comprehensive. This position proactively deals with any data system quality issues, working with the Data Engineering, Lead and DBA to test and implement appropriate changes as needed.

Essential Functions

    • Maintain new data integrations across a variety of sources to support a data set growing in volume and complexity
    • Independently develop and manage projects to consolidate legacy data systems into the current production paradigm
    • Develop, test, document and support scalable data pipelines
    • Establish and follow data governance processes and guidelines to ensure data availability, usability, consistency, integrity, and security
    • Coordinate and prioritize novel data source development projects and updates to existing sources; plan, manage and execute projects within targeted timelines
    • Proactively develop and maintain relationships with senior leadership and key stakeholders. Be responsive to their urgent needs and changes to priorities
    • Provide regular written and oral updates on their portfolio of projects and maintain a record of work and activities within the appropriate documentation systems and processes
    • Working with the Business Intelligence Analyst role, help identify and resolve data issues, and/or provide recommendations for expansions and improvements to the BI program’s data and systems
    • Become a subject-matter expert on all relevant data sources; knowing how data is collected and organized within data sources
    • Propose new and state-of-the-art technologies and processes that will improve efficiency and enhance the reporting platform
    • Understand CHN’s operational processes, procedures, and standards to help improve departmental efficiency and performance
    • Collaborate with the Data Engineering, Lead to identify areas of opportunity and impacting trends and coordinates on priorities and workload management
    • Adhere to internal controls and reporting structure
    • Maintain open and professional communication with internal and external customers, colleagues, and vendors
    • Champion the effectiveness of functional team efforts and support development of improvement strategies to enhance overall efficiency across remote teams
    • Be an advocate for using data to help the business grow and adapt
    • Demonstrates a commitment to learning about and enhancing practices related to racial equity and the impact of structural racism on healthcare systems
    • Provides positive and development feedback and accountability related to practices including, but not limited to, equity

Qualifications (Required)

    • 5+ years of experience in field
    • Proficiency with using structured and unstructured data sources to create data extracts
    • Proficiency with SQL (MSSQL, Presto, MySQL, etc.)
    • Proficiency with AWS platform (S3, Athena, Glue, Lambda, Redshift)
    • Proficiency with R, Power Shell, and Python
    • Proficiency with APIs and ETL processes
    • Proficiency with Microsoft software (Excel, Power Query, Power BI, etc.)
    • Experience using Epic Systems
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate and interact with all levels within CHN and its customers as needed
    • Strong attention to detail and follow-up; and ability to adapt and shift as needed.
    • Demonstrated dedication to Planned Parenthood’s mission, vision, and values.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships.
    • Excellent time management, and problem-solving skills

Qualifications (Preferred)

    • 10+ years of experience in field
    • Bachelor’s degree or higher, in a related field or equivalent experience
    • Experience using other EMRs such as NextGen, Athena, ECW
    • Experience using BridgeIT CCIS
    • Prior experience building and maintaining data pipelines in a multi-practice ambulatory setting

  • Above Position Compensation Range: $84,000 annualized (Minimum); goes up based on relevant experience
