Overview

The Campus Development Division delivers mission ready projects from concept through implementation in support of the PNNL Campus Strategy, emerging research needs, and the ongoing investments in modernizing and maintaining the Laboratory’s existing facilities, utilities, and infrastructure. The CAD Design group creates drawings in support of PNNL facilities, and Research and Development Projects. Designers interface with both Design Engineers and Building Engineers.

Campus Development excels in actualizing projects that maximize safety, functionality, and reliability, while optimizing the efficiency, sustainability, and life-cycle operating costs of our facility and infrastructure capabilities to enable a mission ready research and development campus for the Department of Energy.


Responsibilities

This position is responsible for using AutoCAD to create and modify drawings. Walk-downs of facilities are done to ensure accurate representation of existing facilities, equipment, and systems. In addition to creating technically accurate drawings, Designers are expected to communicate professionally, follow applicable procedures, assure CAD standards are met, continuously learn and implement technology, and perform walk-downs of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) facilities. This position applies knowledge and methods of engineering technology to accomplish multi-discipline engineering technical work including research and development support.

This position:
  • Primarily works on Key and Operational drawings for PNNL’s Richland campus
  • Technically represents multi-disciple systems and equipment in 2D facility drawings
  • Works with the CAD Design team and Building Engineers

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Technical Institute Graduate (TIG)/ AA or higher -OR-
  • High school diploma/GED and 2 years of relevant experience required
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Problem solving and basic calculations
  • Experience with multi-discipline engineering drawings
  • Excel skills
  • 3D AutoCAD
  • REVIT skills
  • SolidWorks skills
  • Vault experience

Hazardous Working Conditions/Environment

Work includes both office work and field walk downs and/or oversight. Field activities may result in exposure to normal/typical construction site hazards, e.g., uneven terrain, welding, cutting, grinding, operations, open excavations, noise, vibrations, heavy equipment, operation, ladder use, exposure to weather.
