About the Role:
Internews seeks an experienced technologist to join its Global Technology Hub (GTH). You will be providing vital training and assistance to enhance media organisations’ ability to effectively, securely, and safely use digital tools for publishing, broadcasting, communication, and more. You’ll join a diverse and dedicated team providing a direct support connection between Internews and its partners and beneficiaries around the world.
Key Responsibilities:
· Conducting digital organisational assessments to identify needs, strengths and weaknesses in different information security capacities, and develop support and training plans with partner organisations.
· Delivering IT security remediation support, advising and supporting on IT projects such as system hardening and monitoring and data archival projects, and assisting with digital safety and information security training, guidance and mentoring.
· Support partner organisations in the use of digital collaboration tools, helping benchmark and select tools, set policies for efficient, secure and safe use, ensure the organisation develops the capacity to manage the system even beyond the period of support with Internews.
· Helping with trouble shooting of partner organisation websites as well as training on secure, effective use of online platforms.
· Helping partners better access, understand and use metrics tools such as Google Analytics, Facebook page insights and so forth.
· Collaborating on documentation of processes and in extending training materials; and
· Working with an international team to maintain good communications, timelines and maintain reasonable expectations on service delivery.

Essential skills and experience:
· Candidates should possess the following experience, skillsets or background:
· Fluency in English.
· Passions for free expression and internet freedom.
· Patience, and excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to explain technical concepts in plain language for individuals and groups with different levels of digital experience and understanding.
· Ability to work in a globally distributed team on projects with multiple milestones and deliverables.
· Able to provide support remotely, working with those who may have technical difficulties.
· Experience with delivering technical support over internet chat, voice or video calls or in creating documented how-to lessons and resources.
· A strong understanding of digital safety and information security practices, and organisational security assessments and developing and leading plans for improvement.
· Using end-to-end encryption in communications and file transmission.
· Managing domain records.
· Using anti-DDOS services and other attack-mitigation technologies (Cloudflare, Deflect, etc.).
· A solid understanding of information security and internet’s building blocks: DNS, SSL, IP, etc.
· Clear writing skills and an ability to produce documentation for hand-over.
· Experience or interest in working with charities and NGOs, nonprofits, media, human rights and/or education or civil society groups.
· Ability to work well with others, meet deadlines, and respond to changes in priorities.
Beneficial but not required:
· In addition to the above, it may be helpful (but not essential) if candidates have the following:
· Experience in an established organisational security assessment framework (SAFETAG, NIST SP 800 series, ISO 27000 series, CIS Controls, or other information security assessment credentials such as CEH, OSCP, etc);
· Previous Helpdesk oriented experience or related experience required.
· Previous teaching and training experience for small and large groups.
· Previous experience with curriculum development and delivery.
· Fluency in at least one other regional or vernacular language is advantageous.
· Some web development and DevOps experience.
· Comfortable editing PHP, HTML, CSS, and Markdown.
· Familiarity working with git.
