EEP Marketing & Communication Supervisor

Description

Develops, implements and manages the execution of Nicor Gas’ Energy Efficiency Program marketing, public relations, public affairs communications and internal and external outreach strategy to ensure increased customer awareness of the Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program and its offerings and drives sufficient customer participation and enrollment in programs to meet gas savings goals. Supports the Manager in marketing strategy and plan development. Oversees marketing analytics and trends and applies new technologies and best practices to advance public awareness efforts. Leads marketing efforts for energy efficiency offerings associated with special projects and change management. Fosters a positive image of Nicor Gas and Southern Company Gas and ensures message consistency across all programs and implementation contractors. Manages marketing and communications budget and expenses. Reviews and edits all internal and external marketing and communication materials, including press and collateral pieces. Executes advertising efforts with Manager and outside agencies.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education, Certifications/Licenses:

Required: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Relations, Communications, Media, Marketing or similar combination of education and work experience.

Preferred: Advanced degree or APR (Accredited in Public Relations) or ABC (Accredited Business

Communicator) certification; Active role in industry organization such as PRSA or IABC

Related Work Experience:

Required: 6 years experience in marketing and / or communications, or graduate degree with 3-5 years experience

OR any combination of education and work experience which permits the candidate to meet position work requirements.

Required:

(writing a release, drafting key messages, drafting PR/media plan)

  • Proven relationship-building skills at all levels within an organization

  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat

  • Proficient use of database platforms for marketing analytics
  • Experience managing a team of 2 or more individuals

Preferred:

  • Marketing and core public relations skills (story pitching; relationship building; understanding of media role)
  • Keen understanding of calculating and reporting PR/media ROI

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional local Travel: The incumbent will be required to travel on occasion. Trips will require driving within the Nicor Gas territory and Chicago area.
  • Works in an office environment.
  • Due to nature of role, employee may occasionally work beyond traditional business hours to meet media deadlines or attend events as company representative.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Functional Expertise:

  • Use timely and actionable research results to support the EEP marketing and communication plan, initiate real-time program modifications, and incorporate target marketing inputs.
  • Develop EEP marketing / communications program policies and business processes.
  • Manage the creation, modification, addition or discontinuation of new and existing marketing / communication programs for the portfolio, including budget allocation between programs.
  • Review, edit and if necessary write press releases, media advisories and statements, talking points, etc. according to AP Style.
  • Manage the execution of outreach efforts in support of the marketing, communications and outreach plan
  • Manage the development and execution of marketing, media and public relations plans for the Nicor Gas EEP business unit
  • Manage coordination and involvement with internal stakeholders including corporate communications, community relations, energy assistance and customer development
  • Provide planning and execution support as needed for media-facing events
  • Familiarity with new media platforms, including responsive websites, blogs and social media channels as well as digital media marketing opportunities, including geo-targeting and search engine optimization, to support message penetration
  • Other duties as assigned

Business Acumen:

  • Develop and manage energy efficiency education and outreach plans and budget to ensure sufficient customer enrollment in programs to meet gas savings goals.
  • Responsible for incorporating results from market potential studies, program evaluation results, and research activities as necessary to develop new energy efficiency marketing and communication plans
  • Manage budget and expense tracker for the energy efficiency program marketing and communications team
  • Ensure media and PR plans align with EEP business unit objectives and are consistent with corporate goals
  • Drive process improvements
  • Keep current with trends and innovations in PR and media relations and keep abreast of such activities of companies similar to ours

Engagement:

  • Manage joint and coordinated education and outreach efforts with other utilities, including contracting and management of joint contractors and other operating logistics.
  • Provide regular reports, analysis and recommendations to EEP and other Company departments for use in marketing strategies and tactical plans.

  • Modify marketing and communication efforts to adjust to customer participation, EM&V, QA or audit results in order to maintain cost effective programs that achieve program goals.
