NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs


If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

What Your Job Will Be Like


Our team is seeking a highly motivated electronics technologist. Your primary focus will be to support the development of specialized RF communications and remote sensing systems for National Security applications. You may be required to make occasional travel within the Continental U.S. for field tests. Projects range from very urgent, quick reaction requests in response to real-world driven needs to longer term, life-critical efforts with rigorous development requirements. You will become a member of a multi-discipline, success oriented high-performance team.

On any given day you may be called on to:

  • Assemble and test RF electrical assemblies
  • Troubleshoot custom electronics circuits
  • Conduct field testing of electronics including test planning, coordination, and execution
  • Coordinate with production partners on test specs, processes, and non-conforming product
  • Procure, evaluate, and organize parts
  • Fabricate cables and circuit boards
  • Document build processes and test results
  • Maintain laboratory space and equipment.

Qualifications We Require

  • You will have a technical associate’s degree; or 4 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the associate’s degree
  • Experience with general electronic test equipment including power supplies, multi-meters, and oscilloscopes
  • Experience assembling, testing, and troubleshooting electronic circuitry
  • Ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance.

Qualifications We Desire


Ideally, we would like to see your background include some of the following:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in a relevant field
  • You bring experience with, or education in, general test and measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, DVM, logic analyzers) and RF test equipment (network analyzer, spectrum analyzer)
  • Experience with automated instrument control
  • LabVIEW or MATLAB programming experience
  • Field test experience and support
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and document testing, including field tests
  • Experience with PWB assembly, soldering, and inspection
  • IPC-610 Solder and Inspection Certification
  • Experience with potting materials and vacuum chamber processes
  • Understanding of wireless communication electronics and related systems
  • Experience performing antenna measurements
  • Experience laying out and assembling electronic chassis/enclosures
  • Effective communication and documentation skills
  • Be motivated by working with a highly successful, dynamic project team delivering systems that impact our National Security
  • Currently active DOE Q-level security clearance (or DoD-TS equivalent).

About Our Team


The Advanced Radio Frequency Applications department researches, develops, evaluates and deploys specialized RF systems for a number of national security applications including space based, airborne, and terrestrial RF communications, Command and Control (C2), remote sensing, nontraditional Electronic Counter Measures / Electronic Warfare (ECM/EW), and specialized Tagging, Tracking, and Locating (TTL) systems. Members of the department have broadly varying skills including RF/microwave circuit and system design, antenna design, digital signal processing, embedded system hardware and software, digital system design, operational field-testing development/support, and program/project management. Design challenges include highly miniaturized electronic system design, communication system architecture, ultra-low size, weight, and power (SWaP) hardware, ultra-low-noise receivers, and signal extraction/classification techniques in low Signal-to-Noise-Ratio environments. We are tightly integrated with other departments in the Advanced RF Applications business area and regularly partner across organizational boundaries internal and external to SNL, to include working closely with Government/Military partners to consistently deliver high-impact solutions to some of our nation¿s most difficult national security problems.

Security Clearance
