This position assists the Fairgrounds Supervisor with the supervision, training, and support for the maintenance staff assigned to the Fairgrounds. Responsibilities will include overseeing outside contract work, internal maintenance and janitorial, as well as work with staff and Event Holders. This position requires good communication skills and ability to work and instruct all building and trades personnel in the performance of their assigned tasks and responsibilities to ensure continued operations of all Fairgrounds Facilities.

Generally, the hiring range is $60,738-$75,922 annually. Qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position will be taken into consideration when determining hiring salary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all-inclusive.)

  • Supervises and performs work assigned to the Fairgrounds Maintenance Technicians, other assigned staff and contractors in preparation and operation of the Fairgrounds and Events Center for all scheduled events to include set-up, monitoring during events, technical support (AV equipment, PA, phones, data), clean-up and participates in the hiring of subordinate staff.
  • Assist with planning and coordination of the annual County Fair & Rodeo.Coordinate maintenance and janitorial support during Fair.Represents Fairgrounds at Fair Board and committee meetings when necessary.
  • Conducts and/or coordinates orientation, training, and ongoing education programs for staff.
  • Provides instructions and guidance, coordinates work schedules, and approves timesheets.
  • Assists with establishing and updating Facilities Safety and Security plans and Emergency Response Procedures.
  • Assumes the duties of the Fairgrounds Supervisor in his or her absence, to include preparing required reports.
  • Under the direction of the Fairgrounds Supervisor, this person will help to document and inventory maintenance requirements for all operating systems at the Fairgrounds Facilities.
  • Assist in maintaining database work orders and record of the maintenance history of all facility operating systems and equipment and conduct equipment inspections regularly.
  • Maintains accurate and timely facility maintenance expenses and maintenance of management records and files.
  • Assists in the administration of miscellaneous contract programs.
  • Oversees inventory control programs and systems to ensure accuracy. Purchases parts and supplies required within the area of responsibility and approved budget guidelines.
  • Completes daily, weekly and monthly inspections of Fairgrounds Facilities to verify they are clean and ready for next Event Holder.
  • Maintains a safe work environment by following codes, standards and legal regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Periodic supervision. Work is performed independently and requires just-in-time decision-making capability.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position supervises Fairgrounds Maintenance Technicians and other assigned staff. Responsible for evaluation of staff. Assist the management team regarding hiring, termination, disciplinary issues, etc. May provide job-site supervision to other County employees, contractors, and volunteers.

INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT: Acts independently in most cases. Independent judgment is based on prior knowledge and experience to reach decisions within given guidelines.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Two years supervisory or lead experience
  • A minimum of five years of commercial building maintenance and repair experience is required.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of materials available and used for facility and grounds maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of state and local ordinances and codes and construction practices to maintain safe County facilities operating systems.

  • Knowledge of human resources concepts such as employee development, disciplinary actions, and recruitment.
  • General knowledge of project management, to include construction, remodeling and similar scope.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures.

Skills:

  • Read and understand a variety of correspondences, such as forms, reports, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Intermediate skill in MS Office programs.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:

  • This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check including fingerprinting through a national database.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License upon hire, with complying insurance. Review of motor vehicle record is required at time of hire and periodically throughout employment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Physical Work Environment: Work is performed both inside a facility and outdoors in all weather conditions. Some hazardous situations may exist based on work to be performed. May have contact (direct and in-direct) with animals and livestock, in an environment that exists for the animal’s care and event management. Must be available to work a flexible schedule to include weekends, days, nights, holidays and additional hours as needed. On call for events and emergency shelter operations.

Physical Demands: Work requires the ability to lift and carry 50lbs frequently. Work requires the ability to push and pull 100lbs. frequently. It also requires frequent bending, squatting, standing, climbing, kneeling, and walking. May be required to work in small, hard to reach spaces occasionally.

Material and Equipment Directly Used: Computer, motor vehicle, heavy equipment, farm/ranch implements, ladder, scissor lift, power tools, diagnostic meters, and hand tools, and numerous other specialty construction and maintenance equipment
