The goal of this recruitment is to fill the positions at the Fish & Wildlife Technician (FWT) level. However, we encourage candidates to apply for the Fish & Wildlife Technician Entry level ($2,723 - $3,596/mo.) as the department may consider under-filling the position.

Job Description: What you will do:
Fish Rearing
-
Set up rearing containers to receive fry or fish
-
Set and monitor water flows.
-
Clean rearing containers as prescribed by good fish culture techniques. This consists of brooming and vacuuming ponds.

Feed fish as directed with proper size, type, and quantities of fish food, be observant of feed quality such as odors, color, and texture. Also be able to lift 50 lb sacks of feed.

Monitor fish growth, development, feedings, and water flows and keep accurate records.

Treat fish as prescribed by fish pathologist.

Move and handle fish in rearing containers as needed to: inventory, grade, mark, load, transfer, or release.
Working Conditions:
-
May work in or near cold, deep, or fast moving water for extended periods of time.

Handle chemicals used in treatment of fish or disinfection of fish handling equipment to prevent or control fish diseases.

Work with paint, vehicle fuel, lubricants, and other solvents during routine maintenance activities.

Work long hours during the spawning season and egg incubation process.
-
Must display a good sense of diplomacy when dealing with the public.

Occasionally, work alone on weekends and may have to respond to emergencies.

Must be able to perform repetitive motions while raking debris from water intakes, cleaning ponds, feeding fish, and during spawning.

This position requires a flexible work schedule that varies in the number of hours worked on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, or a work schedule in which the starting and stopping times vary on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, and does not exceed forth (40) hours in a workweek. Work exceeding 40 hours per week requires prior approval by the supervisor."

Minimum Qualifications:
Fish and Wildlife Technician:
- An Associate degree in Fisheries Technology, Aquaculture or Aquarium Science; OR
- Eighteen months of fish culture (care of fish) experience. (six months of fisheries, fish screens, wildlife or related habitat work experience will count toward this experience).
A higher level degree in Fisheries Science or a closely-related degree with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of biological/ecological coursework will substitute for the Associate's degree.
Fish and Wildlife Technician Entry Option - Underfill:
- Minimum qualifications are not established for this classification (there are no minimum qualifications). Previous related experience is desirable.
