Davidson College seeks to fill a full time Gardener position working 40 hours per week. The purpose of this position is to perform horticulture tasks and grounds maintenance involving the operation of motorized equipment and a variety of hand tools. During the academic year this position is assigned rotating weekend duty approximately every ten weeks.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Planting, pruning shrubs, trees and hedges. Maintaining woody, perennials and annual plant materials. Perform weed management, fertilizing, mulching of shrub beds, flowerbeds and tree skirts.
• Maintain campus grounds and other college property including irrigating, mowing, trimming, edging, Operate tractors, tillers, lawn sweepers and other equipment as needed. Other duties as assigned.
• Monitor activity on campus, identify problems and report or address as needed. Remove paper, debris, and other trash as necessary.
• Note: Operation of equipment will require the ability to lift and place equipment and materials and may expose the employee to certain hazardous conditions. The employee must work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma.
• Valid drivers' license.
• Valid N.C. Pesticide Application License or the ability to obtain within 12 months.
• Minimum 3-5 years horticultural experience.
• Able to operate lawn and other motorized equipment and appropriate hand tools.
• Able to design and maintain flower beds.
• Associate's degree preferred.
