Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Specialist - Waco, TX

The Site HSE Specialist reports to Site HSE Manager and is primarily responsible for driving a positive safety culture, with a proactive vs reactive mindset. The person in this role will be responsible for management and execution of Health, Safety, and Security responsibilities within the confines of the site. This critical role understands the interworking relationship between HSE and productivity, profits, associate engagement and retention and ensuring environmental compliance.

What we are looking for?

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in science required (Engineering, Chemistry, Safety, IH, Environmental Sciences or relevant discipline)

• 2+ years of Manufacturing experience

• Demonstrated leadership in driving a cultural safety change within a manufacturing environment

Preferred Requirements:

• ASP and CSP a plus!

• Knowledge of food manufacturing and Q&FS

• Experience with hazard recognition, behavioral-based safety, job hazard analysis and Process Hazards Analysis

What will be your key responsibilities?

• Responsible for the development and deployment of Strategic Safety Initiatives to drive results as they specifically apply to the site.

• Serves as a site level HSE technical expert, providing technical expertise/coaching as needed in all areas and initiatives of the function including capital project review and risks management associated with non-capital modifications.

• Uses a data driven approach to manage, strategize and prioritize site HSE direction.

• Shares and uses data to influence, motivate, measure and drive continuous improvement. Upwardly communicate performance toward company goals for safety and the environment.

• Partner and collaborate with Value Streams to drive Safety Culture foundation.

• Leads the effective implementation and utilization of risk assessment and risk prediction processes at the site and drives for appropriate mitigation measures to lower site safety risks. Ensures effective communication and understanding by all affected associates.

• Develops a prioritized, multi-tiered risk based prioritization plan. Works with site and central resources to execute on plan.

• Develop and deploy the site specific HSE programs and plans to position the site as a best in class organization.
