POSITION: Heavy Equipment Operator

DEPARTMENT: Water Maintenance

SCHEDULE: Full-Time - 8-hour shifts

SALARY: Negotiable – Dependent upon experience

JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for operating heavy and light equipment to assist in the maintenance and repair of water and sewer lines. Duties include operating a trencher to dig water and sewer lines. This position also involves operating a mud hog pump, a boring machine and air compressor to drill through paved services. Candidate will also be responsible for setting up traffic control equipment at job work sites. Assist with installing water and sewer taps. Inspect service connections, raises manholes, valve boxes, and meter boxes. Assist with underground inspections of sanitary and storm sewers; locates water and sewer mains and lines. Answer emergency service calls as required and assists other department crews as necessary.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION:

• Knowledge of safety and department policies and procedures pertaining to the repair and maintenance of water and sewer lines and mains.
• Knowledge of the location of water and sewer lines and mains.
• Knowledge in operating equipment such as a trencher, dump truck, mud hog pump, boring machine, and air compressor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to communicate effectively and clearly
• High School Diploma or GED
• Class B CDL State of Georgia Driver License
• Skill in operating machinery described above.
• Skill in use of tools as, i.e.; wrenches, pumps, concrete saw, rodding machine, and vacuum.
• Skill in oral and written communications.
• Able to answer emergency service calls as required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
