The HSSE Advisor will Implement functional improvements toward top quartile Group HSSE performance and deliver Goal Zero, continuously improve on the HSSE performance of our logistics service providers, building up quality levels of the logistics services up to or exceed Industry standards by implementing best practices, and implement tools and processes which manage HSSE risks across different product lines with varying product hazards.

What is the role

  • Deliver independent assurance and assessments on our supply chain to ensure safe work conditions at customer sites and logistics supply points (road and terminal).
  • Facilitate and provide technical/operational input into incident investigation, prepare and communicate Learning from Experience (LFE) for relevant incidents, and follow up on actions for Chemicals and Products Class of business (CoB) incidents and near misses in order to prevent recurrence.
  • Represent Chemicals and Products and participate in country/trade associations, regulatory dialogues etc. as part of the Responsible Care program.
  • Participate in and lead contract reviews of logistics service providers, assessments of customers and supply points to assess quality of HSSE standards, equipment and operating procedures. Advise on improvements that can be made and implement those improvements.
  • Facilitate follow up by logistics service providers on HSSE and other quality issues, technically related. Work closely with logistics service providers to resolve non-compliance issues.
  • Provide product line HSSE support to the Chemicals and Products CoB, including guidance on contract requirements, assessments, and support in team engagements.

Additional elements of the role are:

Work with the Strategic Distributions Operations Manager to establish and deliver HSSE expectations, monitor cluster HSSE performance and implement improvement opportunities. Principle accountabilities include:

  • Ensure proper HSSE systems, standards and tools, as per the Chemicals HSSE Management System, are in place and functioning and provide assurance to the Strategic Distributions Operations Manager
  • Ensure implementation of HSSE strategies, systems, policies, standards and tools.
  • Deliver HSSE challenge and support, coordinating efforts with HSSE counterparts including Emergency Response. Leverage best practices and implement Learning From Experience.
  • Participate and support incident investigation for significant incidents. Identify and achieve implementation of HSSE improvement programs with contractors, integrating with business processes to achieve continuous improvement.
  • Support implementation of Learner Mindset with colleagues and business leaders.
  • Implement independent assurance and assessment on our supply chain.
  • Accountable for HSSE support to Operations and Commercial Teams in Shell Chemicals Class of Business
  • Provide in-depth expertise on technical and operational logistics matters, relevant for HSSE, supply, distribution and sales processes.
  • Help to establish a proactive safety culture in order to continuously improve Class of Business HSSE performance.
  • Maintain knowledge of transport and storage regulations and ensure compliance in cooperation with the Dangerous Goods Advisors.
  • Participate in internal and/or external teams to improve equipment standards, HSSE best practices etc.

Requirements:

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred with safety background and commensurable experience
  • At least 5+ years' related HSSE experience
  • Advanced in the following systems: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
  • Strong analytical ability and must be able to provide recommended “solutions” or action plans as a result of data analysis
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with data from multiple sources, interpret the data, and turn into actionable conclusions
  • Desire to work in a fast-moving, fun, engaging, and dynamic team environment
  • Goal orientated and results driven
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize duties with minimal supervision, in order to meet deadlines.
  • Team/collaborative approach to decision making with excellent people skills and ability to build and maintain relationships
  • Operational experience in HSSE compliance management in a Logistics environment.
  • Understanding of Department of Transportation regulations is desirable
  • Exposure to supply chain and logistics operations, managing customers and 3rd party service providers HSSE will be an advantage.
  • Knowledgeable in Technical Safety Fundamentals, Risk Management, Safeguarding and Implementation, Monitoring, Reviews and Assurance
  • Manufacturing operations and/or technology experience will be an advantage.
  • Experience in project management and delivery.
