Introduction
The Department of Administration (DOA), Division of Personnel Management, currently has openings for two Human Resources Assistant – Advanced positions within the Human Resources team serving the Department of Veterans Affairs. Both positions offer a casual office atmosphere and flexible work schedules including some telework based on position requirements.
The first position is located at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at Union Grove (WVHUG). The Union Grove facility is located off Highway 11 in-between Burlington and Racine and is a short drive from Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, and other key locations throughout Southeastern Wisconsin.
The second position is located at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King (WVHK). The King facility is located on the picturesque shoreline of the Chain O'Lakes, off Highway 10 between Stevens Point and Appleton.
Both locations are 24/7/365 long-term care facilities that specialize in providing comfort, support, and professional healthcare services to elderly or disabled veterans and their spouses.

Position Summary
Both positions perform a wide variety of staffing and administrative support functions. The primary emphasis is on coordinating daily workflow, assisting human resources staff, facility employees, and maintaining human resources records.
The duties and responsibilities include drafting and editing personnel documents; disseminating information to agency staff; developing and preparing human resources reports; providing technical assistance to professional human resources staff; providing administrative support to HR management; and organizing new employee orientation and benefit presentations and information. These positions also enter transaction data into the agency’s Human Resources Information System (HRIS).
Salary Information
The starting pay rate is between $24.00 and $26.00 an hour. Current state employees pay will be based on the provisions in the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan. This classification is in Pay Schedule 81, Pay Range 04. A twelve-month probationary period will be required.
Job Details
Due to the nature of this position’s duties, DOA will conduct criminal background checks prior to an offer of hire.
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without WDVA sponsorship) at the time of application.
Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.

Qualifications
Minimally-qualified applicants will have experience:
- Providing administrative support in an HR setting (drafting correspondence, preparing personnel documents and employment letters, maintaining files and records, etc.); and
- Coordinating recruitment activities (e.g. drafting job announcements, advertising, preparing job descriptions, updating organizational charts, scheduling interviews, checking references, maintaining recruitment files, etc.).
Well-qualified applicants will also have experience:
- Conducting new employee orientation or providing training;
- Maintaining employee information in a Human Resource Information System (e.g., PeopleSoft, Taleo, Kronos, etc.);
- Retrieving and analyzing data for reports or audits.
