About the position: A Jr. Systems Administrator will be responsible for setting up and maintaining our internal and external network infrastructure and hosted services. In addition you will create applications and tools to assist various projects within Shasta QA as well as keep us up to date on new technologies and trends. Some end user support is required for issues that cannot be resolved remotely and to support other members of the IT team. You may also be asked to contribute to other activities as they come up.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Setup and configuration of physical hardware, virtual machines, containers, mobile devices, etc.
  • Administering Google Workspace, Apple MDM, Linux servers, AWS services, Containers, etc.
  • Creating documentation for common and/or useful procedures for end users and others in IT.
  • Researching, testing, reviewing, and documenting new tools, software, systems, and methods
  • Improving our network security and infrastructure
  • Creating tools such as chat bots or webapps
  • Writing CI/CD pipelines with GitLab
  • Automate tedious tasks and server configurations

TECHNICAL SKILLS
We would like you to have experience with any of the following:

  • Android and iOS mobile operating systems
  • Intermediate knowledge of *nix systems
  • Knowledge of network security best practices
  • Exposure to configuration management software such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet, etc.
  • Exposure to containerization tools such as Docker or Podman
  • Experience with remote management of Linux, Windows, and MacOS devices

SOFT SKILLS
Familiarity with the following:

  • 1 year of experience. We’d like you to have at least one year of experience in a related field, but we also love self starters and students and will consider equivalent experience
  • Familiarity with at least one scripting language. Automate repetitive tasks so you can focus on new challenging problems. Bash, Python, Go, Powershell, and more are all used
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You’ll be talking with everyone from trainees to company executives, so it’s very important that you be able to express yourself well
  • A passion for technical puzzles and picking apart problems. Some bugs are tricky to nail down, and some technical problems are hard to solve. We love challenge, and so should you
  • Interest in new technologies and an aptitude for picking them up quickly. We move quickly and work with a wide variety of tech; it’s important that you enjoy gaining new skills

Salary Range: $30k-$40k, depending on experience
All applicants are subject to a background check. Background checks will include, at a minimum, SSN verification, county criminal, federal criminal, sex offender registry, and government watch list. The background check must be completed before employment begins except when employment begins prior to the completion of the background check as a conditional offer. Once the background check is complete hiring authority and human resources will inform the conditional employee of hire based on the outcome of the background check. Shasta QA complies with California, Iowa, Louisiana, and Federal employment compliance laws.
