Located on the 5th floor of the Austin Proper Hotel, La Piscina is a convivial poolside restaurant and bar serving Texas-inspired Mexican cuisine. The vibrant, open space overlooks the downtown Austin bustle as groups convene over family-style platters, ceviche, and table-top sizzling fajitas, fresh seafood grilled over a wood fire and house-made tortillas from an open comal. The bar provides an accompanying selection of frozen margaritas, native Mexican spirits, small-batch tequila & mezcal, as well as an assortment of outdoor-friendly snacks.


Job Overview

The Line Cook preps, sets up, and provides quality service in all areas of food production for menu items and specials in the designated outlets in accordance with standards and plating guide specifications. The cook maintains organization, cleanliness, and sanitation of work areas and equipment.


Duties/Responsibilities

  • Expertly know the menu, preparation methods, and procedures
  • Ensure flawless quality, preparation, and presentation
  • Extensive knowledge of food and cooking techniques including knifework, plating, portioning, and precision cooking
  • Produce a consistent and quality product
  • Knowledge of kitchen safety protocols
  • Ability to learn and retain information quickly
  • Ability to work clean, organized, and as part of a team
  • Must be able to stand and walk for an extended period
  • Be able to use various types of kitchen equipment
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Breakdown and clean equipment
  • General knowledge of food and safety sanitation standards
  • Work in a fast-paced environment
  • Produce a consistent and quality product
  • Willingness to work at peak hours, which may include evenings, holidays, and weekends
  • Knowledge of cooking techniques


Required Skills/Abilities


  • Basic cooking skills and knowledge of equipment

Education

  • 1-3 years’ experience in a fine dining or casual fine dining high volume kitchen
  • Culinary education or apprenticeship preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalency
