Lab Technician, Plastic Additives
POSITION OVERVIEW
This hourly position is part of Milliken Chemicals Polymer Additives Business. The laboratory technical associate supports the development of new products. The ideal candidate will have practical laboratory experience.
The position is located at our corporate headquarters in Spartanburg, SC. Hours of work are typically Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm with some flex time.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Perform laboratory experiments including chemical synthesis of new molecules, plastics processing, and characterization of resulting materials Develop new methods for non-standard tasks Maintain laboratory space and equipment Demonstrate commitment to safety Collaborate effectively with a team of scientists to achieve project targets and deadlines Organize and effectively communicate results in a clear concise manner (reports, tables, charts)
QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED
BS degree in Chemistry or related field
The successful candidate will have strengths in the following: Work ethic and organizational skills Proficient in use of scientific method, critical thinking, and problem solving Able to follow instructions and to work independently Strong verbal and written communications skills Basic personal computer skill including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases Previous experience in a chemical laboratory is a plus Previous experience in chemical synthesis is a strong plus Previous experience with plastics processing and/or testing is a plus Proactive disposition in finding & evaluating solutions to constraints
