Who we are looking for:
We are currently looking for a Lean Engineer to be based out of Hobart also supporting Kokomo. Reporting to the ABS Director, this person will be responsible for assisting and occasionally leading the deployment of Lean methodology including strategy design and deployment, and training.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering, Engineering Technology or other related functional areas.. Experience in lean manufacturing or business system-based company is required.
What you’ll do:
- Support the Manufacturing facility's ABS control room process to sustain the connection between Strategy Deployment, Lean Excellence, and Facility Transformation initiatives.
- Support and create elements of the lean daily management system.
- Engage with ABS and facility leadership to assist with achieving specific targets to achieve improvements functionally and strategically in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Innovation metrics.
- Develop, facilitate, and lead Value Stream Mapping (VSM) activities to identify and prioritize improvement opportunities.
What you’ll bring:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or other related functional areas or work experience.
- 3 to 5 years of similar work experience in a manufacturing operation.
- Certified Lean Practitioner or Certified Six Sigman Black Belt strongly preferred.
- Proficient in creating and analyzing data. Proven ability to conduct complex problem solving and analysis and apply these abilities to product or service development and process improvement required.
- Ability to travel 25% to 65% of the time, as needed. Must be open to travel as business needs arise.
Within 3 months, you’ll:
- Complete your Atkore Onboarding & Immersion program.
- Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore’s strategy.
- Visit the locations you support and begin building relationships with site contacts.
Within 6 months, you’ll:
- Support productivity improvement projects in the plant and other transactional waste reduction initiatives.
- Provide input and feedback to key leadership positions about process improvement opportunities specific to all parts of the organization.
- Support process and transactional improvement Kaizens,
- Identify, create, and sustain standard processes throughout the organization.
- Analyze and monetize improvements and opportunities within the company.
Within 12 months, you’ll:
- Partner with all functions to assist with defining process capabilities, assessing business performance gaps, and developing gap closure plans.
- Support a robust Continuous Improvement (Kaizen) funnel. Review and approve kaizen charters, coaching improvement team leaders as to how to improve charter effectiveness.
- Coach, train, and mentor cross-functional teams in proper use and application of Lean tools including, but not limited to, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Standard Work, 5S, SMED, Daily Management, GEMBA meetings, Problem Solving, TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), and TPI (Transactional Process Improvement).
- Provide awareness, knowledge, and guidance to team members of Lean methodologies and tools to support achievement of business objectives.
