Lecturer III in Art & Ecology. 1.0 FTE. The Department of Art seeks an artist whose practice is rooted in interdisciplinary, research-based ecological art. The ideal candidate has a practice that complements the current Art & Ecology faculty, contributing distinct approaches and concerns. The new faculty member will be teaching 3 courses per year in the Art & Ecology area, in addition to co-teaching 2 courses per semester in the Land Arts of the American West program (LAAW). Additional responsibilities include extensive administrative and logistical support for the LAAW field-based program.

The University of New Mexico's Art & Ecology program was established in 2007 as a unique, interdisciplinary art program with an ecological focus. Students can pursue studies in Art & Ecology at the undergraduate and graduate level. UNM's Land Arts of the American West program was established in 2000 to inspire and support environmentally and socially engaged art practices through field-based bioregional teaching, collective learning, interdisciplinary research, community collaboration, and creative forms of publication and exhibition. The University of New Mexico’s Department of Art is part of the College of Fine Arts, whose internationally recognized programs, faculty, and staff provide a comprehensive education in both the visual and the performing arts. The Department of Art offers the B.A., B.F.A., M.A., M.F.A., and Ph.D. degrees.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- M.F.A. in Studio Art.
- Two years cumulative university-level teaching experience as instructor of record after the M.F.A
PERFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience teaching field-based Environmental Art and/or Art & Ecology courses; commitment to developing innovative interdisciplinary Art & Ecology curriculum.
- Extraordinary communication skills and ability to work within a highly collaborative team setting.
- Proven managerial, budgetary, and organizational ability.
- Demonstrated interest in contributing to a contemporary interdisciplinary setting in an atmosphere of close faculty-student mentoring.
- Record of creative practice, exhibition/publication in Environmental and/or Ecological Art.
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
