Job Description


Cline Library’s User Services and Experience (“USX”) unit oversees the operations of the library’s public services, spaces, and lending technologies and provides access and information services including circulation and frontline research support to the NAU community.

The Library Coordinator, Intermediate (“LCI”) provides oversight of the library and its services during extended late-night hours and works with library leadership to gather, analyze, maintain, and report data from department and library services and programs. The LCI coordinates departmental billing processes including library appeals and fines and supports the department in maintaining supplies and other operational functions. The LCI actively contributes to the programs and services provided at the Ask Us! Desk, the Cline Library Assembly Hall, and related content delivery services (interlibrary loan) and participates in conceptualizing, designing, delivering, and improving user-focused services.

The successful candidate will supervise Cline Library student employees, demonstrating leadership, supervision, and performance management skills in overseeing their work. The successful candidate will ensure that student work meets library expectations and students remain productive; the position coaches student employees in meeting high-quality standards for all assigned tasks.

Academic/Programmatic - 70%

  • Coordinate the collection and reporting of monthly program and service statistics. Design and develop statistical reports regarding library, collection, and technology use and other related services.
  • Maintain accurate accounting and records for fines and appeals. Facilitate communication with users that have incurred fines and achieve positive resolutions. Process payments accurately and according to library and university policies. Make recommendations for policy or procedural changes to department head.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to all library users at a very active Ask Us! Desk offering user assistance, including check-out of library materials, equipment, spaces, and more.
  • Process interlibrary loan requests on a nightly basis. Maintain a high level of proficiency and knowledge in searching strategies. Search various databases and document suppliers to find full-text articles that patrons can view online.
  • Support departmental operations by maintaining unit office supplies and coordinating the lost and found for the library.

Supervisory - 15%

  • Supervise student employees including User Experience assistants, Cline security and custodial aides; includes hiring, training, performance management, and evaluation. Set clear expectations for student employees and coach them to work productively while meeting high-quality standards for assigned tasks.

Research - 5%

  • Provide research and referral support in person, by phone, and via chat. Use electronic and print resources to assist NAU and CCC users as well as members of the community.
  • Accurately and appropriately refer customers to subject librarians.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities that strengthen the Cline Library learning environment.

Technological - 5%

  • Contribute to event staffing and tech support in the Cline Library Assembly Hall.
  • Assist in event management including processing payments for use of Cline event spaces.

Other - 5%

  • Actively participate in achieving organizational priorities. Contribute positively to library-wide planning and initiatives.
  • Sustain flexibility in work schedule to accommodate shifting priorities of the unit.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Two to four years of relevant experience.
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and maintaining data.
  • Experience working with billing and other financial functions.
  • Supervisory experience including hiring, training, evaluation, and performance oversight.

  • Use of library-specific tools including online resources, instant messaging (chat), library service platforms such as Ex Libris Alma/Primo, and scheduling tools.

Background Information


Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary


Salary range begins at $41,421. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.


FLSA Status


This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System; paid vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. More information on benefits at NAU is available on the Human Resources benefits website. Classified Staff employees are in a probationary status for their first six months at NAU. NAU is a tobacco and smoke-free campus. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. Additionally, new employees will begin participating in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date.
