Ethical Culture Fieldston School is a progressive PreK-12 independent school that has been serving students from throughout New York City and the surrounding suburbs since 1878. ECFS offers a rich curriculum in the arts, sciences, and humanities. A co-ed, nonsectarian school, it serves a diverse community of about 1,700 students on two campuses - one in the Riverdale section of the Bronx and the other in Manhattan.The Upper School, located in the Bronx, is comprised of approximately 600 students and 80 faculty members.

Position Summary:
The Upper School Division is seeking to hire a full time Math Teacher for grades 9-12, beginning Sept 1, 2023. The Ideal candidate will teach 4 sections of math, including Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, and/or Statistics. The ideal candidate will also have experience employing a range of pedagogical approaches (e.g., direct instruction, project-based learning, cooperative group work) and will be excited by the opportunity to teach a diverse student body in a values-based community. Qualified candidates have also demonstrated a commitment to addressing issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion both within and outside the classroom. A passion for working with upper school students, a flexible attitude, and a commitment to lifelong learning are essential.
The hiring range for this position is $68,212-$161,916.
Responsibilities:
Specific responsibilities of the Math teacher will include:
  • Teaching a course load of 4 sections per year.
  • Attending all departmental and division meetings.
  • Serving as a form advisor (optional).
  • Collaborating with other math department colleagues, including sharing resources and developing curriculum.
  • Other shared upper school faculty responsibilities.
Position requirements:
The successful incumbent will possess:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or closely related field required, Masters degree preferred.
  • A minimum 3 years of math teaching experience in a high school environment (grades 9-12).
  • Ability to teach Algebra II, Precalculus, and/or Statistics at college prep and honors levels.
  • An understanding and commitment to cultural competency and how to support a diverse student population.
  • Demonstrated proficiency of implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion practices and topics in the mathematics classroom.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to cultivate positive working relationships with students and their families.
  • Proficient in using technology in the classroom, including Google Suite for Education and interactive whiteboards.
