JOB SUMMARY: The Medical Assistant ensures Prepares patients to see the physicians, facilitates lab tests, patient referrals, prior authorizations and paperwork as needed. Assists the Physician with clinical duties as directed. Must be willing to cross train between departments and positions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Experience performing lab tests and handling lab paperwork
  • Comfortable using email and interacting with Internet applications
  • Knowledge of practice management and electronic medical records software
  • Working knowledge of managed care basics
  • Ability to speak clearly with professional demeanor
  • Good communication skills
  • Neat, professional appearance

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Clinical Support

· Greets patient and escorts them from the waiting room to exam rooms; prepares patients for exam or treatment

· Starts patient update in EMR system.

· Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments

· Assists physicians in preparing for examinations and minor procedures

· Pre-certifies surgical and other procedures, if appropriate

· Schedules tests and offsite procedures when necessary

· Refills patient prescriptions as directed by the Physician

· Communicates physician referral requests to referral staff for processing

· Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization

· Disposes of contaminated items according to OSHA guidelines

· Obtains and handles laboratory specimens according to CLIA guidelines

· Enters patient demographic information into the computerized lab ordering system

· Performs patient education when appropriate

· Replenishes supplies—stocks and cleans exam rooms

· Takes medical stock inventory and communicates supply shortages to Purchasing Department.

· Monitors receipts of patient lab results and communicates results to patients

· Directs lab results to physician for review and treatment plan

Other

  • Maintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice
  • Maintains detailed knowledge of practice management and other computer software as it relates to job functions
  • Attends annual required company programs
  • Attends all regular required department and company meetings
  • Performs all other tasks and projects assigned by the Physician and/or COO

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $16.50 per hour
