The Parent Educator is a grant-funded position responsible for providing case management and parenting education through home visitation services. The Parent Educator works collaboratively with young parents to develop and execute an individualized plan to reach their goals in the areas of education and career development; physical, emotional, and mental health; financial independence, parenting, and empowerment. The Parent Educator will have a maximum caseload of 15 families. The position engages community partners to provide a comprehensive array of high quality services to support parent goals.

CATEGORY I: Education, Training and Experience

The individual will hold a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, social work or human services. An associate’s degree in early childhood education or related field with two years’ experience may be considered. Experience as a parent educator and/or with performing home visits preferred. Must have a demonstrated ability to work with caregivers and their young children in an educational or social service setting using a trauma-informed, culturally congruent approach to relationship building.


State licensing requires all candidates to be 25 years of age or older and able to pass standard background checks, including drug screen, employment physical, SLED, Child Abuse Central Registry and Sex Offenders Registry. Must maintain a valid driver’s license, a safe driving record, and an insured, reliable personal vehicle. All new employees will be required to provide proof within 6 weeks of hire that they are fully vaccinated against COVID.

Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for long periods of time; use hands to handle or feel objects. The employee is occasionally required to stand for long periods of time; walk; sit on the floor; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Must have the ability to drive a vehicle. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts family needs assessment and provides case management services to ensure families receive necessary services to promote their long-term independence
  • Assesses the quality and appropriateness of services being provided to each youth in our care.
  • Maintains written and electronic case files in a timely manner and in accordance with state regulations and agency policies.
  • Implements the Parents As Teachers and Nurturing Parenting home visitation models for parenting education and support
  • Conducts development screenings for infants and toddlers using the Ages and Stages Questionnaire to help identify any special needs
  • Acts as a liaison with community agencies and organizations to plan and structure a program that supports the youth’s goals.
  • Completes a minimum of 16 continuing education hours per year.
  • Is on-call for consultation on emergency clinical issues after working hours and on weekends (in rotation with other clinical staff).
  • Other duties as assigned

This is a grant-funded position contingent on the receipt of receiving grant funding.
