Pre-School Teacher Assistant - Friendship Corner II

Hours: (Monday - Friday 8:00am - 3:00pm)

Location: Paterson NJ

Job Summary:

The classroom assistant teacher must supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times and be alert to the needs and concerns of the children as individuals, and also as a group. The assistant teacher must work in collaboration with the classroom teacher or lead teacher and program director to properly reinforce learning activities and adhere to all licensing and district requirements.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for maintaining the -overall appearance of the classroom in accordance to School District, ECERS (Early Childhood Environment Rating scale) and NAEYC (National Association of Young Children) requirements.
  • Assist classroom teacher in the everyday running of classroom operations as instructed.
  • Maintain line-of-sight supervision of the children throughout the school day.
  • Follow the daily program, and assist with instruction, as outlined in the class schedule and weekly lesson plans.
  • Maintain, classroom equipment, curriculum materials and supplies.
  • Encourage and participate in planned parental involvement activities within the classroom/school community, including attending Back to School Night/Open Houses; parent workshops and trainings; field trips and volunteering.
  • Work cooperatively as a team member within your classroom, individual grade level, inter-grade levels and the entire school community.
  • Work cooperatively with classroom teacher for the purpose of collecting and reviewing student assessment data.
  • Adhere to CFCS and, Office of Licensing and Early Learning Program policies and procedures.
  • Report any suspected case of child abuse to the appropriate authorities as outlined in the Employee Handbook and School District Guidelines.
  • Responsible to report in writing any accident or unusual occurrence to the Program Director, or the Director's Designee, before the end of your scheduled workday. ll. Inform Program Director, or Director's Designee, of classroom safety, and or maintenance need.
  • Follow program, Office of Licensing and NAEYC guidelines for cleaning and sanitation procedures.
  • Attend scheduled workshop/trainings and pursue professional development hours in accordance with agency, program and Board of Education requirements, Attend classroom observation follow-up meetings and staff evaluations
  • Attend monthly staff meetings approximately one hour in length outside of regularly scheduled work hours.
  • Supervise children's meal and snack times.
  • Supervise naptime duty as assigned,
  • Carry out additional tasks as requested by the Program Director, Director's Designee.
  • Responsible for other duties that may be assigned from time to time to support the effective and efficient operation of Catholic Charities.
  • In the event of an extended building closure and the need to continue instruction virtually:
  • Assist classroom teacher in implementing the PPS BOE remote daily schedule and remote learning lesson plan.
  • Assist classroom teacher in creating assignments to supplement the PPS BOE remote learning lesson plan as needed.
  • Support parents/guardians as "educational facilitators" and encourage student participation.
  • Maintain availability throughout your regularly scheduled hours.
  • Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings via video conference.
  • Safeguard school technology/equipment and return upon resumption of in-classroom instruction.

Skill and Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Child Development Certificate or in process of receiving one in timely manner, high school diploma or equivalent, Associate Degree, or 60 credits in Early Childhood Education preferred.
  • Passaic County Substitute Certification a plus
  • Knowledge of child development and skills in Early Childhood.
  • Effective English oral and written skills.
  • Bilingual Spanish oral and written skills a plus.
  • Effective comprehension and reasoning skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to accurately fill out necessary documentation and form
