PROCESS ENGINEER

Location: Walker, MI (3710 Northridge Dr. NW)

Status: Permanent, Full-Time, Salary, Exempt

Regular Hours: Monday - Thursday, 10 hour days (6am - 4pm) and Fridays only as needed/required

Remote Status: In-Office; this position is not open to remote work and you must be able to regularly commute to our location in Walker, MI.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Emphasize and show commitment to continuous improvement. Monitor production process to improve product flow.
  • Eliminate variation in the production process caused by equipment and/or product design. Determine and implement these process improvements.
  • Optimize the current equipment and improve process capabilities.
  • Develop new processes, which will improve the quality of the product and decrease the cycle time to produce the product.
  • Research and purchase equipment for new processes as well as for improving existing processes.
  • Take product from design stage to full production as a team member of new product launches.
  • Concentrate on corrective action by looking below the surface to find root cause (5 Why’s, 8-D’s). Take corrective action seriously.
  • Train and lead team in problem solving.
  • Design fixturing, which will assist in producing a quality product by identifying when the product was assembled/processed incorrectly, and other possible tools for the workstations.
  • Work with production to resolve quality issues, line rejects/RMA.
  • Interface with other departments on the production teams’ behalf to ensure that company quality standards and customer requirements are met.
  • Assist in the development of Control Plans, FMEA’s, Process Flow Charts and Assembly Drawings.
  • Provide resources and remove barriers allowing teams to be effective.
  • Assist in creating a standard work method for each operation. Simulate production operations to ensure the best practices are utilized.
  • Layout workstation ergonomically ensuring production lines are properly laid out and equipped with the proper tools.
  • Reduce line inefficiency in both personnel and W-I-P.
  • Work with area supervisor to ensure product is moving smoothly.
  • Other work-related duties assigned by manager.

Qualifications

  • Cable Harness Assembly experience preferred.
  • Ability to communicate a full understanding of company policy desired.
  • 4-year college degree in a technical, scientific or related field preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controller programs beneficial.
  • Good troubleshooting skills.
  • Work schedule must be suitable for production needs. Some travel required for vendor and customer visits.
  • The ability to learn and network the organization

  • Proven analytical ability to understand and solve technical issues in a team-oriented environment.
  • Personality and commitment to create a team-based culture.
  • High ability to organize and low tolerance for a disorderly work environment.
