The Manager Product Engineering is responsible to lead the engineering resources to support product development of automotive seating structures and components. These resources include, but are not limited to, Product Engineers, Product Designers, Program Managers, engineering and testing facilities. The Manager Product Engineering will lead the engineering team through all states of product development from concept to production and full product life cycle.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide the resource allocation, manage priorities, and provide design and engineering status reports.
  • Create project plans to meet product development process and system requirements.
  • Create and manage budgets for assigned projects.
  • Create and control engineering design documentation.
  • Assure quality of design, analysis (including stack-up analysis), models and prints through established design reviews.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships and supplier contacts both internally and externally, including being the face to the customer during all technical review discussions.
  • Lead new business pursuit activities, which includes supporting the quoting process, as well as technical presentations and reviews.
  • Manage training plans for engineering employees, as well as provide guidance for professional growth and improvement.
  • Manage and direct design development testing, design/production validation plans and testing analyses.
  • Lead teams composed of product and manufacturing engineering resources to develop cost effective designs and targeted investment solutions.
  • Support manufacturing plant to resolve design for manufacturability related issues.
  • Utilize problem solving methods and disciplines such as 8-D and 6-Panel methods.
  • Understand OEM requirements for Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers related to the design, test, and launch of products and ensure these requirements are cascaded to the next tier suppliers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Bachelor’s in Engineering Technology or equivalent.
  • 7+ years of product engineering experience.
  • 5 years of leadership experience in Engineering.
  • Seating engineering experience preferred
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, including Project, AutoCAD, ERP Systems, etc.
  • Master of Science in Engineering or MBA is preferred.
  • Familiar with NVH development at vehicle and component level is preferred.

  • Ability to apply and direct appropriate use of problem-solving methods.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Must be able to work under pressure, be willing to work with tight deadlines, be capable of multi-tasking, and have the ability to adjust to changing priorities.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will lead product and process design and execution for the engineering department and partner with engineering, program management and sales teams across multiple regions of the world.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception. Be able to travel 20-25%, including international travel.
