Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Program Coordinator I for the Douglass Developmental Disabilities Center (DDDC). The position reports to the Principal of the DDDC School Program. The purpose of this position is to collaborate with the Special Education Teacher in the assessment, development and monitoring of educational, transitional and vocational and life-relevant programming for students with autism in the school program of the DDDC, under the management of the Coordinator of Curriculum and Instruction.

- Supervises program implementation and supports training of Teaching Assistants and university undergraduate fieldwork students.
- Provides immediate classroom supervision and support.
- Maintains records and reports on student progress.
- Consults with parents and other professionals regarding student programming.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- A minimum of two year’s experience in a recognized behavioral facility providing direct services to children and/or young adults with autism, other developmental disabilities, and/or behavior disorders.
Certifications/Licenses
- A New Jersey substitute teacher’s certification.
- Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver’s license would be required for this position.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience utilizing applied behavior analysis techniques.
- Effective communication skills, and computer literacy.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in psychology, special education, or applied behavior analysis.
- Experience and competence with behavioral data management, goal assessment and planning, family programming, and paraprofessional supervision.
- Knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and Boardmaker, and various media/technology.
- CPR/ AED certification.
- Crisis Management Training.
Equipment Utilized
- Knowledge of, and experience with computers and computer software.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Employee must be physically active and be on feet most of the day.
- Duties may involve running and playing active games with individuals with autism (ages 3 1/2 – 21 years or adults), driving vans or other vehicles.
- Following training must be physically capable of safely providing crisis management techniques including restraining, lifting, blocking individuals with challenging behavior.
- Crowded and moderately noisy conditions with children, adolescents, adults, and staff moving about.
Special Conditions
- In accordance with New Jersey State law, applicants must agree to undergo and authorize the University to conduct fingerprint, criminal history and/or child abuse record checks with various law enforcement agencies, including, but not limited to: the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Identification Division and/or the New Jersey Division of State Police, Bureau of Identification. Applicants must also assume any costs incurred by the university associated with the background investigations, whether required by statute or not.
- In accordance with state mandated requirements, a Mantoux test will be administered to the successful applicant to verify the absence of tuberculosis. In addition, the successful applicant, at the cost of the University, will be required to be inoculated against Hepatitis B unless the successful applicant waives this vaccination in writing. All offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of all pre-employment screenings.

Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster upon eligibility and upload proof of same. Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Additional infection control and safety policies may apply. Prospective employees should speak with their hiring manager to determine which policies apply to the role or position for which they are applying.
