The City of Deming is seeking qualified applicants for a regular, full time, Project Coordinator in the Community

Services Department. Incumbent reports directly to the Community Services Director. Under general supervision,

provides public or other individuals with designated services, implement laws, codes, programs, or policies

prescribed by legislative bodies.

Performs routine administrative tasks in conjunction with Community Service programs; may participate in

technical work characteristic of the department served; performs other related duties as assigned. Incumbent is

expected to perform the full range of assigned tasks without significant supervision.

The position may include liaison duties between the Parks/Recreation, Airport, Planning and Zoning, and

the Extra Territorial Zoning Commission and/or the Extra Territorial Zoning Authority.

The employee will assist in the administration, operations, planning, and budgeting for various Municipal

activities within the Community Services Department, and for any related grant administration.

The employee will be responsible for the development of municipal projects to include grant applications

and grant administration for various Federal, State and local funding sources.

Prepares written and oral presentations on operational and community planning issues, to all levels of the

organization including citizen groups.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Illustrative Examples of Work)

  • Aids in the development of short- and long-range plans and projects; gathers, interprets, and prepares data
for studies, reports and recommendations; coordinates department activities with other departments and

agencies as needed.

  • Provides planning and development advice to supervisors and other officials; makes private and public
presentations to supervisors, boards, commissions, civic groups and the general public.
  • Communicates official plans, programs, policies and procedures to staff and the general public.
  • Assists Community Services Director in developing work procedures to expedite workflow; studies and
standardizes procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operations.
  • Prepares a variety of studies, reports and related information for decision-making purposes.
  • Resolves complex and sensitive customer service issues, either personally, by telephone or in writing.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of department activities and records relating to development and
implementation of programs and projects.
  • Provides staff support to various boards and commissions as needed and assigned.
  • Serves when needed as a member of a task force or committee composed of City, County, State or private
groups.
  • Researches and complies necessary data; writes and submits grants. Administers approved/funded grants.
  • Oversees the development and maintenance of a database of information for planning and development
purposes.
  • Responds to citizens inquiring about community development, planning and zoning regulations and
ordinances.
  • Attends professional development workshops and conferences to keep abreast of trends and developments
in the field of municipal planning and operations.
  • Assists in the design process for parks, streetscapes, landscapes and other municipal projects.
  • Researches and compiles a variety of informational materials from external and internal sources and creates
narrative and statistical reports related to special projects, inquires, customer service issues, and

departmental functions.

  • Adheres to and complies with the City of Deming Personnel Policies and Procedures.
  • Preforms other duties as assigned.

Desired Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university with a degree in a related field; or three to four

years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Other Skills and Abilities and Qualifications

  • Position involves competing demands, performing multiple tasks, working with deadlines, and occasionally
working beyond normal business hours.
  • Skill in the operation of the standard tools and office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with architects, contractors, developers, owners,
supervisors, employees, and the general public; ability to establish effective working relationships with

architects, contractors, developers, owners, supervisors, employees, and the general public; ability to

prepare and analyze comprehensive and technical reports and data.

  • Must possess a valid New Mexico drivers license
