This Mechanical Project Engineer is to be involved with the implementation and installation of capital equipment and facilities which include all phases from specification, design, and purchase through cost control. This position provides engineering expertise to aid the plant engineering and maintenance department, process/development engineering, and/or operating departments in the solution of technical problems. Technical assistance will be manifested in manufacturing equipment/facilities refinement and optimization. A practical level of understanding of mechanical engineering principles are to be applied to assigned project work. Individual is to be provided with moderate task definition, supervision, and technical/process-related advice throughout the execution of assignments. Typically, some but minimal overall project responsibility will be delegated.


Responsibilities

  • Recommend, specify, and procure facilities and equipment for implementation of projects.
  • Size, calculate, and design facilities and equipment to insure proper application
  • Develop accurate cost estimates and schedules to control costs and provide for timely completion of projects
  • Install and start up equipment, provide field supervision, and follow up to complete facilities in a timely manner
  • Provide project documentation (Scope, budget, purchase orders, contracts, reports) to maintain good records and data for similar future projects
  • Leads the deployment of best practice process improvement methodologies across the Plant.
  • Ability to train and lead improvement activities with operators, maintenance personnel, and engineering department.
  • Introduces process improvements to maximize output, efficiency, and to reduce cost.
  • Develops new systems to improve workflow

Other Duties

  • Fixes process defects
  • Promotes and practices safety and good housekeeping
  • Supervision of draftsmen, technicians or engineers assigned to projects as required
  • Travel to vendor facilities to evaluate their technical capabilities, etc.
  • Develops, executes, and supports multiple plant projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or equivalent, required.
  • Experience in a complex, high-volume manufacturing environment is preferred.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to do one or more of the following, separately and/or together: stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms, read, write, talk and hear. Travel is required up to 20% of the time.


Work Environment

In addition to the standard office environment, this position involves occasional work at manufacturing facilities and job sites typical of the construction trade.
