Job Summary

The University of Chicago's Department of Medicine's Section of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism in the Biological Sciences Division, and the Mirmira Lab is seeking a Project Manager with extensive molecular biology, islet biology, and diabetes research experience to support, facilitate and coordinate daily research activities. This individual will work with the Mirmira Lab, the Department of Medicine, grant sponsors, and the University of Chicago to support and provide guidance on the administration of the compliance, financial, personnel and other related aspects of the study; playing a critical role in the conduct of research projects and helping to establish a cutting-edge research program within the University of Chicago.
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate the implementation of research studies and provide project management and research support to research staff and Principal Investigators.
  • Supervise other research staff and students working on various studies and engage in administrative tasks related to the research.
  • Oversee several projects’ operations and handle compliance requirements.
  • Work independently to develop detailed work plans, schedules, resource plans, and status reports.
  • Apply research principles and relevant subject matter experience to administer a research project.
  • Help develop, design, and conduct research projects according to plan.
  • Identify gaps in program progress, ensuring the research team is meeting deadlines and providing quality deliverables, assisting the research team as needed.
  • Ensures necessary reports/documentation are submitted on time and in appropriate formats to all granters/stakeholders when needed.
  • Negotiate with external organizations to establish and maintain relationships.
  • Collaborate/consult with researchers by reviewing, evaluating, and making recommendations for project/program initiatives.
  • Provide leadership to project/program including initiating, conducting, reporting, and providing technical support and project management.
  • Contribute to operations affected by project/program; work with individuals internal and external to project/program to exchange information, solve problems, resolve conflicts, develop workflow processes, allocate department resources across projects, and ensure efficient and effective implementations of initiatives.
  • Participant in professional activities: author, co-author abstracts, manuscripts; attend and present at meetings.
  • Supervise project/program staff including hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, and developing staff.
  • Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.
  • Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience:
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications
Education:
  • Master’s Degree in biomedical research such as biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, endocrinology, or immunology.
Experience:
  • Experience in diabetes research.
