Department Summary

The Office of Institutional Research (IR) collaborate with the campus community in support of strategic planning, enrollment planning, assessment, and continuous improvement through consultative program design and timely dissemination of reliable information.

Our goals are:

  • Provide expertise and support for program design, assessment, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop, provide, and maintain timely and accurate institutional data to internal and external audiences.
  • Conduct project-based research and analyses.

Job Summary

The Office of Institutional Research and Analytics conducts institutional research and partners with the campus community to support planning, accreditation, and evidence-based decision-making for student success. The main function of a research technician is to provide expertise in data analysis, visualization, mining, and reporting to campus stakeholders.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct data mining, reporting, analyses, and writing summaries in support of planning, enrollment management, policy formation, decision-making, and accreditation.
  • Work cooperatively with campus stakeholders on the improvement of Institutional Research data warehouses and standardized data report queries in the development of a wide range of web-based projects.
  • Prepares data, materials, and reports for institutional self-study, program review, departmental self-study, and other data requestors especially in support of institutional evaluation.
  • Stay up to date on data software and reporting techniques. Performs other assignments and duties as assigned.

Employment Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt, Temporary position.

Work Schedule

  • Generally, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Some weekends and evenings may be required.


Key Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of research techniques and the methods of preparation of research reports.
  • Working knowledge of statistical principles and procedures, including methods of frequency series, data, simple correlation methods, sampling techniques, and construction of index numbers.
  • Ability to assist in preparation of surveys, gathering and analyzing research data, and in compiling data for reports and summaries in tabular and graphic form.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and prepare detailed written reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to create, analyze and evaluate information and provide data for review.
  • Ability to speak and write effectively.


Education and Experience

  • Experience: One year of experience in technical research or statistical work. One year of graduate study in the social sciences, economics, mathematics, statistics, public or business administration, or engineering fields may be substituted for the required experience.
  • Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university, including or supplemented by a course in statistics. Additional experience which has demonstrated that the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities delineated above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing and performing data visualizations and using data visualization software (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, etc.).
  • Experience mining, screening, manipulating, and curating data for the purpose of generating reports and summaries.
  • General knowledge of statistical principles and procedures.
  • Experience designing and performing data visualizations using Tableau
  • Intermediate knowledge and practice of SPSS, social science research and statistics


Salary

Anticipated Hiring Range: $3,120 - $3,500 per month

Classification Hiring Range: $3,120 - $5,618 per month
