Tacoma Power's Utility Technology Services (UTS) section is accepting applications for a Computing Systems Engineer to work in the Operational Information Systems Administration Group. The position primarily provides systems engineering support for the operation of industrial control systems such as the Energy Management System (EMS). The EMS is a computer-based industrial control system used by power systems operators to monitor, control, and optimize the performance of Tacoma Power's generation and transmission systems. Tasks include monitoring and maintaining the operating systems and hardware that host the operational systems critical to Utility Operations.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and deploy new technologies into existing operational environments.
  • Establish and implement operational technology system policies and processes including standards for cybersecurity best practices.
  • Manage and oversee vendor and contractor work on the initial installation and continued support of systems critical to utility operations such as the Energy Management System (EMS), or the Automated Meter Infrastructure (AMI).
  • Manage and monitor performance of support agreements with equipment and software vendors.
  • Prepare documentation and evidence to demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in regulatory audits as a Subject Matter Expert.
  • Coordinate and review work of consultants and vendors.
  • Analyze system logs to monitor system performance, resolve issues, and perform tuning.
  • Assess, test, and apply operating system and application updates, patches, and configuration changes.
  • Manage components of the operational virtual server and desktop infrastructure supporting utility control systems.
  • Administer resource pools for operational systems locally on a hyper-converged infrastructure and within public cloud (AWS).
  • Respond to and investigate customer questions.
  • First response to system failures through participation in on call rotation in a 24x7 data center environment.
  • Develop/review technical specifications, designs, RFQ/RFP documents for the purchase and implementation of new operational systems.
  • Provide support to application engineers as required to support system configuration upgrades/deployments resulting from changes to the utility electrical grid operations.



QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or directly related field*
  • 4 years of progressively responsible computer network, communications engineering or industrial controls experience
  • Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements as assigned:
North American Electric Reliability Corporation Critical Infrastructure Protection certification (NECC-CIP)
Washington State Driver's License
