Anchor QEA is seeking a full-time, senior-level geotechnical engineer with project management experience for our Irvine, California office. We are seeking a candidate with strong experience in overseeing and managing geotechnical engineering studies and designs, preparing scopes of work and budgets for such efforts, and direct interaction with clients and contractors. and who is looking. Candidates for the position must have a M.S. degree in geotechnical engineering and a demonstrated proficiency in overseeing project work, including geotechnical field investigation programs (borings, CPTs, test pits, and the like), slope stability and settlement assessments, seismic design, and design of features such as retaining wall, pavements, and foundations; particularly in soft soils, nearshore settings, offshore sediments, and various challenging geotechnical environments.

Successful candidates will support projects with geotechnical, civil and environmental engineering design elements, and will assist in developing new clientele and geotechnical work opportunities in and around Southern California, the San Francisco Bay area, and other areas of the nation. The selected candidate will have an opportunity to work on a variety of tasks of differing complexities, both independently and in team environments and learn directly from leaders in the industry.

Responsibilities:

Managing, reviewing, and helping to communicate the results of geotechnical engineering analyses and calculations, construction RFIs, cost estimates, design drawings, and technical specifications. Projects will be highly varied but will often feature development, remediation, and restoration work in nearshore and offshore environments, so work experience in such settings will be helpful. Other responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing the planning, strategizing, and preparation of geotechnical field programs, design-related geotechnical evaluations, feasibility study reports
  • Supporting and helping to lead construction management work during project implementation
  • Helping to lead proposal development and business development efforts, including representing the firm in direct interaction with existing and potential clients
  • Tracking project budgets and progress
  • Coordinating and reviewing technical project work
  • Mentoring staff, including potential staff management

What Are We Looking For?

Candidates will have the following:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) with a master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering with 15 or more years of progressive geotechnical engineering experience
  • Experience with or interest in in-water and upland remediation sites, including the planning and implementation of field sampling and investigation programs, data analysis, feasibility studies, and geotechnical and environmental design
  • Experience with industry-standard analysis methods for slope stability, foundation design, settlement, seismic design and finite element analysis – including a strong understanding of their capabilities and limitations
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Transport Worker Identification Card (TWIC) certification, or the ability to receive within 1 year
  • Ability to occasionally travel to project sites and client meetings across California and potentially out-of-state as well. Travel may occupy as much as approximately 20% of time.

  • Salary Range: $93,577 - $105,000
  • Annual Bonus
  • Other potential bonus types: Billable Time Bonus, Spot Bonus, Milestone Anniversary Bonus, Receiving Professional License/Certification Bonus, Peer-reviewed Publication Bonus, Employee Referral Bonus.
