Day (United States of America) Under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Interpreter Services and within established hospital, clinic and departmental policies and procedures, interprets for patients and families who are Deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing in their interactions with care providers and other hospital personnel at all Lahey Hospital and Medical Center Sites. Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:
Interpreter for American Sign Language interprets for patients and colleagues for their interactions with care providers and other hospital personnel. Assists patients in scheduling appointments. Identifies, assesses and facilitates understanding of cultural differences impacting effective communication.
- Participates in Community Outreach events to represent Interpreter Services and Lahey Hospital and Medical Center
- Maintains computerized records of daily activities, including diary of daily patient transactions, statistics and details of encounters.
- Works as a team with other interpreters and other department’s colleagues, assisting in planning work and developing methods for improving service delivery systems.
- Assists with orientation, mentoring and training of colleagues related to working with patients who are Deaf and hard of hearing.
- Maintains professional competency through participation in professional organizations, attendance at conferences, seminars and other continuing education programs and through independent study yearly.
- Maintain a minimum of 12 hours of CEUs annually.
- Required to work across all sites of Lahey Hospital and Medical Center sites.
- Assists with other departmental support as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor Degree preferred in Interpreting or a related field.
- National Certification by Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (NIC, CI/CT, etc.) or MCDHH state screened.
- Experience in interpreting in a healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology and the signs related to those topics.
- Knowledge of healthcare policies, interpreters Code of Professional Conduct, Standards of Practice and Ethics
- Ability to keep data collection and to maintain formal documentation systems.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Enthusiastic and high sense of team work.
