Looking to make a positive difference in people's lives? Consider working as a Social Services Screener at the Health and Human Services Agency in Nevada County. This position is best suited for individuals who enjoy interacting with people. Helping people and answering their questions is the name of this game! Strong customer service skills are vital in this position as there is a lot of interaction with customers who need our help connecting with the services to best serve them.

The Social Services Screener is a specialized clerical classification. Under limited supervision, this classification supports customers with public assistance programs and applications, explains policies and procedures, gathers and verifies facts and information, initiates cases through an automated system, and makes appropriate referrals for health, social and/or employment services. Knowledge of modern office practices is key. Skills needed for this position include, but are not limited to:

• Explains policies, procedures, and requirements to applicants to inform them of their rights and responsibilities.
• Performs initial application interview for public assistance programs and services.
• Ensures accuracy and completion of application and declaration forms.
• Attend outreach events and assist community members with applying for public assistance programs.
• Assist current customers with retaining benefits through phone call reminders and assistance with verification collection.

The ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish in addition to English would be an asset in this position, but is not required.
