Strong customer service skills are vital in this position as there is a lot of interaction with customers who need our help connecting with the services to best serve them.
The Social Services Screener is a specialized clerical classification. Under limited supervision, this classification supports customers with public assistance programs and applications, explains policies and procedures, gathers and verifies facts and information, initiates cases through an automated system, and makes appropriate referrals for health, social and/or employment services. Knowledge of modern office practices is key. Skills needed for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Explains policies, procedures, and requirements to applicants to inform them of their rights and responsibilities.
- Performs initial application interview for public assistance programs and services.
- Ensures accuracy and completion of application and declaration forms.
- Attend outreach events and assist community members with applying for public assistance programs.
- Assist current customers with retaining benefits through phone call reminders and assistance with verification collection.

Sick Leave:
Temporary County employees shall accrue at the rate of one (1) hour of sick leave for each thirty (30) hours worked effective July 1, 2015. Temporary County employees can accrue a maximum of 48 hours of sick leave per fiscal year.
Medical Benefits:
Temporary employees whose assignments average 30 hours per week or more are eligible to enroll in County-sponsored medical benefits.
