Cornell Health’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) offers confidential counseling and psychiatric services, designed to help students with mental health concerns that may be affecting their quality of life and ability to learn. Our providers include psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, counselors, nurses, and nurse practitioners from diverse cultural and clinical backgrounds. CAPS providers value students in all of their individuality, and are committed to welcoming all people with respect and sensitivity. Our providers regularly collaborate with Cornell Health’s diverse array of healthcare providers as an integrated service that support both the mind and the body.

The Social Work Post-Masters Fellows will develop skills in responding to the many clinical and systemic challenges facing the student body. This role provides opportunity to gain experience in brief mental health assessment, individual therapy, urgent care, group therapy, community outreach education and programming. Fellows will receive supervised training and experience in team-based collegiate mental health triage, effective short-term individual and group psychotherapy, community-based outreach interventions, urgent care assessment and crisis intervention. Social Work Post-Masters Fellow will be actively engaged in a designed professional development regimen that includes: weekly small training group mentorship; weekly seminars on topics such as psychopharmacology, culturally competent practice, and integrated health services; administrative team meetings; weekly clinical team and group supervision; and various seminars/speakers across the Cornell campus. The Fellow position will add to the department’s clinical capacity with the most current academic training practices, provide opportunity to expand our reach across the student body, and create a pipeline to recruit future staff.
Please note: These are one-year (12-month) fixed-term positions, and the expected start date is August 1, 2023. The positions are hybrid with remote and on-site work; opportunity for remote work is subject to change based on business needs.

Required Qualifications
  • Master of Social Work (MSW) graduate degree from an accredited academic program within the last five years.
  • At least one-year of experience providing mental health counseling under supervision, including initial assessment and individual counseling intervention.
  • Commitment to collegiate mental health and serving an academic mission.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with a global population that share the same living and learning community
  • Experience providing crisis intervention and short-term interventions.
  • Experience providing group therapy and educational programming.
  • Experience providing mental health counseling in multiple languages.
  • Experience using a virtual telehealth platform.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuously growing cultural awareness and contributions to inclusive environments.
